I walked into a Mercedes dealership and told them what a fan of their cars I was and would be thrilled to be given the opportunity to drive one of their cars around town singing the praises of Mercedes as I did so.
They agreed but had the nerve to charge me full price for the car! After all the free publicity I was going to give them! The nerve.

While charity is always good, it can be done privately and anonymously. Doing a tacky cruise ship gig for a D list radio DJ is never a good idea ....for a garage band or even a wedding singer even, it's something you do because you HAVE TO. Because your house is in foreclosure or need a new kidney or something.....like being a stripper to put yourself through college.

I know this is all just rumors, but in general if a friend wants to donate money to your charity it's good,.... to supposedly publicly dog a famous *friend for not doing your tacky gig well that's as tacky as tacky can ever be.

If TJ could come up with something a little more dignifying than this Private Joy cruise ship thing, like a BBQ or Tupperware party i think Prince might go for it. To be stuck in the middle of the ocean in a boat full of sweaty middle aged fat people swear you wouldn't be asking for a million bucks yourself, c'mon lets be real.
Nowadays I could picture Prince a lot happier on Alan Keys Liberty cruise party anyways.

Prince apparently has some fence-mending to do with nationally syndicated morning radio show host Tom Joyner.

My buddy Jawn Murray, the D.C.-based celebrity/entertainment pundit and regular on Joyner's show, called to say that Tom dropped an on-air tidbit about Prince the other day. "What he said was: I haven't been happy with Prince since he tried to charge me a million dollars to do my charity cruise," said Murray.

"I thought, 'Let me call C.J. and tell her this.' At one time Prince gave Tom a donation for his Tom Joyner Foundation, which raises money for historically black colleges and universities, but nonetheless, when Tom asked Prince to come perform on the annual cruise, Prince wanted one million to come on the ship."

Why would Symbolina do that? I asked Murray. "Who knows why His Purpleness does the things he does," said Murray, adding: "Tom should be careful, though, before Prince writes a song about him the same way he wrote one about you, C.J."

Based on that Vikings fight song Prince recently penned, Joyner's got nothing to fear here. Had Prince been able to summon some of the passion that inspired "Billy Jack Bitch," I'm sure there would have been a little more fight in that sorry "Purple and Gold" song.

TJ is in the business of making money...believe it...who is he fooling--no one. Peep this, TJ's going to ask Prince to "up" his (TJ's) profile (and you know that's what that was about) and then try to cheap Prince out...then to add insult to injury...go around talking about it...whew...TJ needs to quit it.

prince has always had a problem working with black professinal in the business. he did the same bull when frankie crocker had ask him to do a show. he did the same bull to don cornelius when he ask him. he pull this stunt on jack the rapper and jack put his ass on blast and prince had a problem getting played on the radio because jack had a huge influence with radio then. it is no suprises that he would do this to tom joyner who always plays his music on his shows even the one that all of you known are garbage. he owes tom an apology.

Charity loses all significance and grace when it delves to these levels, If people want give from the heart it is beautiful, when it becomes Monster Truck Sunday sponsored by Budweiser type gigs coaxing *friends for a payback... not so much.

Knowing Tom, he probably has asked MJ, Janet and any other "big" r&b act.

I really think Tom wanted to get P to take his charity to the next level and get him more national press.

Now why would you reduce Prince's performance to that of a wedding singer? Unless, that's what you really think of him.

Speaking for myself, I think his performance could have been the best thing ever to happen on the high seas and broadcast back to the mainland because that "d list dj" as you called Tom Joyner broadcasts live from his little "monster truck" type gig on over 100 radio stations across the nation that otherwise don't give Prince a single thought and later globally from his website!

That could have meant Prince performing LIVE as only he can do AND getting hellava airplay that even the all mighty Prince himself cannot get on his own to boot!
