Is prince a victim of his versatility?

Is prince a victim of his versatility?

I belive prince is a victim of his versatility. damn he is too versatile
funk, jazz, fusion, rock, soul, electro, new age, minneapolis sound, blues,
a producer, an arranger, a songwriter, innovative, experimental etc....

i also find that some of his fans only like certain genre of prince rather then the majority of prince catalogue.

I like his 80's 90's & 2000 music but unfortunately some just want a certain period of prince is music.
I listen to 4u until lotus flower and I have no problems, yes I believe certain albums are better but his rubbish music is better than most.

I do miss those incredible extended versions like mountains anotherlover etc....

I don't know. I think being a top sometimes and a bottom others was probably very satisfying to him.

That's what you meant, right?

Versatile people are the ones who get ahead in life.
Don't have a clue what your talking about.

Agreed. The original post seems to be posting for the sake of it, rather than offering their own input on something, and giving some background as to why they feel that way. Seems lame.

Lol. I'm only guessing the meaning of this thread:

maybe this is what the thread maker means:

Prince, varsatile, innovative, experiements etc..... turning a lot of fans off, fans can't keep up with Prince... ?

in a way that's actually true, imo.

Would that turn people off or end up connecting to a broader audience?

Not necessarily. I would say that flexible people (ie, people who can roll with the punches and recover from adversity) tend to get ahead.

But I know a lot of uber-versatile people who've had a very hard time in their lives simply because they are talented in so many different ways that they can't focus on any one thing long enough to gain traction.

Prince is certainly versatile musically. But I haven't seen a whole lot of evidence of his being versatile in other ways. Then again, I don't know the man personally. shrug

I don't think Prince is a victim at all. I believe Prince is an innovative leader at his musical craft.

Versatility is desirable. cool

Turn people off ...if they say was with him at the begininng of his career in the late 70's/80's as they can't look forward only backwards
...A problem 90's prince fans have no problem with as they can go backwards and forwards as they missed out on the 80's hype ... lol
