Scandlous Sex Suite

I've just found this on vinyl for pretty cheap and I'm pretty sure I'm going to buy it. Anyone wanna recommend it/tell me it sucks/blah blah?

BTW, is the song "Sex" just another remix of Scandlous, or is it a different song altogether?

I like it a lot. Very cool, especially as it nears the end. The Kim Basinger parts are a bit cheesy, but the song is really good. And "Sex" is a stand alone song by Prince and Levi. One of the last great B-sides. It gets pretty funky. You might want to get the CD maxi-single instead. It sells for around $5 or so here at Tower Records. You'll really appreciate good sound quality for this one.

Yeah, definitely worth getting for the song "sex" alone. Contains one of the great Prince screams right near the very end...you'll know it when you hear it!!

I have it on both vinyl and on cd and it's one funky ep so to speak. If you can get it on cd, the sound is much more crisp and you can hear things that the needle of the lp can't pick up. But, you gotta get this single!!!

Here's something I wrote several years ago about the "Scandlous Sex Suite". I dusted it off and here you go:

“Scandalous” was also released on a maxi-single as a 3-part (The Crime, The Passion, The Rapture) suite, lasting over 19 minutes and containing dialogue and “production” help from his one-time flame, Kim Basinger. If you don’t own this multi-orgasmic version of “Scandalous,” you’re missing out on one of the most seductive, soulful, and spiritual moments in the career of an artist whose got bedroom loads of this stuff. Music that soars erotically with anything Marvin Gaye recorded.

The first episode in the trilogy is the awkward first stages of sexual apprehension where electrified tension fills the room and sets the scene for “The Crime.” Prince, of course, plays the role of aggressor, while Kim takes on the coy, shy and nervously unsure, but nevertheless flirtatious role. The music at this point is provocative, yet gentle, perfect for setting the scene and ushering in the foreplay. With the second movement the music grinds into a comfortable groove washed in the same flushing and swirling background sounds that can be heard in his “Dopamine Rush Suite.” Prince uses this relaxing and impassioned ambiance as a platform for unleashing one of the best falsettos he’s ever breathed into a microphone. This is the midpoint of the sexual act where “The Passion” rules the scene. Total bliss is just around the corner, just around the bend. The third and final chapter -- the greatest of the trilogy -- explodes dramatically into the “Lovesexy” zone, where their passionate sex transcends the mere physical to the spiritual. Here their two souls have been fused and become one for a very brief, but nevertheless earth-shattering moment that Prince refers to as “The Rapture.” Prince symbolizes and christens this transcendental moment by pressing, caressing, and massaging his strings until they shoot hot sounds of piercing sweetness all over your ears. It’ll make your toes curl -- twice! If you’re still not finished off -- and hell, you’d have to be Batman for that to be true -- Eric Leeds jumps on the sax (referred to in the credits as the “sexophone”) and delivers an equally moving moment of soul-bursting spirituality. Your legs are likely to be quivering weak when this song finally lets go its sweaty and intoxicating grip.

Each of the three parts of this suite end with the unmistakable sounds of the rolling waves of a Kim Basinger orgasm, leaving many to speculate just how much of this recording is real, and just how much is Memorex. Only two people on this earth likely know the truth. Judging from the stuff leaking out of my speakers, I just hope they had wet-naps in the studio.

“Sex” was also released as a non-album bonus track on the “Scandalous Sex Suite” EP. An uncredited-Camille vocal mixed with simple and repetitive keyboard, bass and drums mark this minimal, Minneapolis punk/funk rocker. And just leave it to Prince to deliver a song called “Sex” right after one of his most erotic recordings, then use it to promote the merits of monogamy. Appearing to point out death as a possibility both figuratively and literally for those who chose to seek their ecstasy and explore their scandalous behavior outside of a monogamous relationship. “One lover: Sex / Two Lovers: Death.” Ironically, this Batman B-side would later be reworked into a much fuller piece by Prince with Levi Seacer, Jr. for the female duo, Lois Lane -- none other than the name of Superman’s love interest.

The Kim Basinger spoken parts are extremely silly, and I think Prince was purposely trying to make her look dumb...lol...but the songs themselves kick ass! "The Passion" version is excellent.

Better than the usual Scandalous Sex Suite is the Japanese 9 track version. It's a combination of SSS and Partyman mixes w/ Feel U Up. I found my copy when I was a new fan and I didn't even know that any of these tracks existed. I was thrilled!

SSS is well worth getting. smile

Well worth getting, just for the guitar work alone.

I remember reading one of those tabloid stories at the time of the track's recording, that the engineers were instructed to leave whilst Prince took Kim in to the studio to record her parts (vocal, that is!) and, upon their return, had the unsavoury task of having to clean honey off the mixing console! Strange, but true?!

Isn't that guitar work from somewhere else? A slowed down solo from one of Prince's protege project? I heard somebody mention this just recently.

btw, love the guitar...

I'd buy it just for the song Sex (Even though the rest is hot as well).

How come it was not put on the B-side CD I’ll never know. This song is just 2 funky.

Excellent... thanks for all the advice. I would probably buy it on CD, except I haven't seen it at all around here (Pittsburgh), and this all vinyl store has it for about 3 bucks. If I do end up liking it a lot, I'm sure I'll buy it on CD.
