I have heard this song, if it's on The Work vol 1-5, 20 cd's of outtakes - but.... I just don't remember.
I don't think it impressed me that much Prince 4Ever.

I like his version, and I love The Three O'Clock's version. In fact, their album Vermillion is awesome, and "Neon Telephone" fits in perfectly on it. It's worth finding.
The song was written Mary Sharon in the movie UTCM. Frankly I think it should have been the song on the radio when Mary was in bed after the party, and called Christopher, instead of "I Wonder U".

It has nothing to do the the Paisley Park label. The Three O'Clock were already an established band. They had four albums before their last one, which was their Paisley Park record. There were 3 other albums before, under different band names. They were a huge part of the Paisley Underground movement. It was only a great coincidence that they ended up doing a record on Paisley Park at the end of their run. Prince's only dalliances with the record was giving them that one song. Good Question also released an album on Paisley Park, and Prince had zero input with that record, and to me is a worse than anything The Three O'Clock put out. Neither were a protege band, like The Family or The Time was, but rather just groups that were shopping for a record deal. In the beginning, that's all Paisley Park was supposed to be, a record label for artists to record with, not a Prince vehicle for his numerous vanity side projects. Vermillion is an excellent pop album.

That is interesting. I knew that P owned some of the PP stuff, but wasn't sure if he owned ALL of it. I know Mavis and George's last albums were both owned by him. I would think P would have George's last album on iTunes at least. George had a pretty big hit with "Paint the White House Black". **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

Hang on, I don't get that. Does that mean he is getting the money that is owed to the artists involved or am I reading it wrong? If he is, it's a bit fecking hypocritical, isn't it?? Erik blah blah blah

He kept the advances from WB or PP that were given to the artists. Since the CDs are out of print, there's no profit there anymore. He knows the fans needs for that stuff, and it's nonsense that he's not rereleased it. What a fool. And we have long known Prince is a hypocrite.

But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.

I don't think a lot of the PP stuff should be released ever again, but some of the PP stuff should. The big question is which projects does he own? I know he owns Mavis' The Voice and GC's 2nd album on PP, but what else would fall into that category? Carmen? Ingrid? **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

I like both versions (don't love 'em). Keeping Wendy & Lisa on the Three O Clock track was a good idea - they gave it that Purple flavor. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

I know it's not the scene, I don't have a pic of the neon telephone
stuff like this should be on Prince's website, I would love to work on stuff like this... Neon Telephone This is Prince's version he later gave to Three O'Clock (after The Jets turned it down) for their 1988 Vermillion album. Recorded during the Parade sessions, the song inspired the neon telephone in Under The Cherry Moon, used by Mary to speak with Christopher. The lyrics are about a woman who refuses to call Prince on account of her pride. Neon Telephone Maybe she'll call me (Neon telephone) Maybe she won't (Maybe she won't) And if she don't (Neon telephone) I'm gonna lose my mind (This time I'm gonna lose my mind) It's kinda dark in here (Neon telephone) I need a light (It's 2 bright) I could use a sexy situation that would do my body just right 2night I'm gonna lose my mind Sometimes her pride is like a big tall building It hides the street that leads 2 a sweet mystery (Sometimes) Sometimes we blow the chance 2 be so happy (Happy) If we could only make up our minds We could have such a good time I know she wants me (Neon telephone) I know she cares (I don't care) Tell me what's stoppin' me (I don't care 2 know) From runnin' right over there and runnin' my fingers through your hair I'm goin' crazy, yes I am (Neon telephone) Why can't U understand? (He needs 2 change) I can't stop (can't stop) thinkin' about U, baby This time I'm gonna lose my mind (This time I'm gonna lose it) Why can't U call me, baby? Pick up the phone U know your little Prince can't be alone I need some of your sweet, sweet... oooh! (Neon telephone) (I don't care) (Neon telephone) Hello How come U didn't call? What, U think U're 2 good or something? Can I talk 2 U? Are U alone? Good God

I have this on 12" promo. If I recall, the only part on it that I liked was the last 30 seconds or so, that it changes into a Prince sound with the Linn. If it breaks when it bends, U better not put it in!

I agree would love to hear a Prince/Wendy & Lisa outtake album. All those dreamy psychodelic songs work so well together: Neon Telephone Large Room with No Light Splash It's a Wonderful Day Dream Factory (with intro) Place in Heaven Teacher, teacher... In fact I might just do it myself. Haha Erik blah blah blah

there's a neon telephone in the clip to IF I WAS UR GIRLFRIEND, in the Sign "☮" The Times Movie..
in the beginning, Cat is calling someone.. - just a thought... [Edited 2/4/10 10:49am] Prince 4Ever.

I dont feel much for this song (both his own version, as that by Three 'o Clock). He has done far better songs in the 'melodious pop' vein.
I think Three 'o clock were better in their underground-period. On the Paisley Park album they sound way too polished and generic for their own good.
