This will be locked soon. One way to be sure to have a thread locked is to mention:
a) Purple and gold b) Hip replacement c) Michael Jackson That being said, yeah, you're probably right Making love and music are the only things worth fighting for.

It's just you, cuz no one knows what you're talking about. Moonbeam Levels = unreleased classic 3 Chains O Gold = Rock Opera Masterpiece, a new "Bohemian Rhapsody" for the 90's Purple And Gold = Used toilet paper

But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.

I only listened to the full version of Purple And Gold once... and that was too many times. There's no way in hell I'm going to do a cross comparison.
Nagada. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Personally, I'd rather read the Santa Claus letter while listening to Jughead at ear-bleed levels than have to hear Purple and Gold ever again.

I'd rather be gang banged by 8 reindeer and Rudolph's angry older cousin as TC Ellis recites the pledge of allegiance eating peanut butter. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Moobeam Levels is one of best song that Prince has ever recorded...PURE GENIUS!

To me, one of the big enigmas in Prince's artistry is how he evolved (within a time span of about 10 years) from minimalistic funk a la Dirty Mind/Controversy/1999 to bombastic symphonies like 3 Chains of Gold. It's almost the work of two completely different persons. On the one hand the Rude Boy with a F.U. attitude and on the other hand a conservative whose artistic taste is not always unquestionable.
It feels like Prince tries to prove something when he comes up with these complex, over-arranged songs. It is not only on some of his more recent work but can also be heard in essence on a couple of tracks from his first two albums. And of course on the Kamasutra album. And just the fact that he tries a little too hard makes these compositions sound artificial, even ridiculous. I remember hearing 3 Chains of Gold for the first time and feeling not too happy with the direction that the music was going. I thought "so this happens when a very talented musician builds himself a new studio with a 98-track recording machine. One Freddie Mercury is more than enough..."

And yet some of the bombastics and even melody appear to be present in Moonbeam Levels, no? "We've never been able to pull off a funk number"
