Well of course you gotta love it!
And even if you don't u have to admit that its HIS style and nobody can (successfully) dance the way he does!

I miss the microphone moves he used to make....I can understand why the splits and all the other moves aren't done now days - but I do miss the way he used to 'use' (and abuse) his microphone.....I guess his dancing is cleaner now...and has lost a bit of it's funky, nasty edge....also I used to love the choreography he used with his band,....they kinda keep themselves separate now, rather than as a unit/band...there seems to be Prince..and the band...whereas in the 80's and 90's Prince allowed his band more prominence than now days...the Parade era for me is my all time favourite...funky man, funky band, playing together, moving together as one....

I there with U, especially the 80's all the protege bands had their own moves that met the music & Prince & the Revolutions band moves were just on. My favorite is from PR the Computer Blue performance. the 80's bands just had that raw 'unpolished' stuff happening I loved it. I also like the band moves during SNL the Future performance in 89 Sheila E and her band really had some good moves put 2gether (Sister Fate isn't my favorite) but the syncronized performance was hot I like the way she worked the mic too, she had some simple sexy movies and winks while working the percussion [Edited 2/4/10 5:55am]

IMO Prince was a FAR better dancer in his prime (1984 - 1989: Purple Rain tour unto the Nude tour) then Michael Jackson.
People seem to herald Michael Jackson for his dance moves, but what i have seen from him really pales in comparison to Princes best dance moves. MJ's dancing seems very static (he is mostly standing in place) and gimmicky (those crotch-grabbing movements annoy the shit out of me) compared to the lean, energetic vibrancy Prince offered during the Parade Tour or The Sign of the Times concerts. Prince's style was different. He tried to innovate alot of moves, which was great, but also made it hard to compare to someone like MJ. Prince focused 90% of his energy on music. MJ focused on dancing.

His dancing is cute and you can tell he's worked hard on his body to achieve such splits and stamina.
He's not running around like a fool these days, cause he knows what his age limits himself too which shows a great deal of acceptance not many rockers are able to do.. take Axl Rose for examply poor man think's he's 17 running around and but in reality he's practically unable to sing right without taking huge gulps of air for he's out of breath ANNNYWWAYYY as i were sayin.. P's dancing is not cutting edge or memorable. His voice and control is what he'll be remembered for. [Edited 2/4/10 12:15pm] "Not to sound cosmic, but I've made plans for the next 3,000 years," he says. "Before, it was only three days at a time."

well rronwinter,
And THAT is something i just dont get. To be clear, I aint no Michael Jackson fan, so i havent followed his career during his life. But since his dead i have seen quite a lot of his 'live' performances on youtube, but there really isnt anything that comes even remotely near to what Prince achieved in terms of choreography during the Parade and SOTT-tours. I maybe blind or something, but show me any video that shows MJ being as vibrant, energetic and lean a dancer as Prince during his heighdays.

I can definately appreciate your opinion of Prince's dancing! So I will not discourage that. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. So if you think he is a better dancer, then Im glad! I wish more people felt that way..even me!

you know what they say about a mans' dancing....
It's either when it comes to the sex OR when it comes to the sex Of course there's that whole hand/foot size thing but we're not talking about that.

1986-7 were the best dancing years for me. I love the Parade stuff and SOTT is just the best.

The general public don't realise quite what his legacy is in terms of musical breadth, musicianship and creating a spectacle through dance. I thought in '93 that his outlandish dancing days were behind him when I saw him live that year, but then he brought it big time on the Oprah show a few years later and even up until the Rave era he was doing the splits as you see above, though I suspect he was trying to just prove a point! At 50+ those moves have gone, to be replaced with effortless cool. That's the best we could ever have hoped for. A total yes to your entire post. Electric, pouring from his soul. His moves, his gestures and with a lot of feeling and that mixed with the great music back then . I do miss that but the guy hurted himself doing all that great shit. He must have worked very hard to achieve that level because his dancing wasn't all that in the early eighties, when he copied Mick Jagger (barf). 84-89 were drooling times with regard to his dancing, delicious. And no, he can't be compared with MJ. MJ had a lot of feeling too but Prince was always original and MJ always sticked to the same old same old movements. Too bad because he was a hell of a dancer too but boring and the aaaaahs and ooooohs, god, I really can't watch his shows.

his dancing is sexy as hell. this is a guy who knows how to move is body and makes it look like no effort, elegantly macho primal beast!
but he still a riot, i really loooove the pseudorobot dancing he does now, preferably with a hat on his beautiful bonce. and the way he caresses the mic stand in a sexual manner, always in time
