Hypno Paradise

Ive never liked this song, it just pisses me off. I'd rather listen to Wedding Feast. Anyway, earlier today I was doing a bit of work on my iPhone while my tunes were on random. As a result I had to leave it on... And guess what?...

No, still hate it. But near the the end, there's a breakdown where that godawful twinkly keyboard sound is removed and it actually sounds ok. You get to hear that Stevie Wonder esque organ work, it's not as frenetic and cheesy. If that Damn twinkly noise could be removed or an earlier edit leaked out, I'd probably really like this song.

Anyone else agree or like the song as is?

Next time. Annoying high pitched whine in Black Sweat... Stay tuned!

Erik

The write up on the DTT-Lyrics.com site.
    A breezy, uptempo number, "Hypno Paradise" is clearly one of the most appealing of Prince's internet-only tracks, with an addictive trance-like hook line as a key ingredient. The song is similar in tempo and overall feel to "Sleep Around" on Emancipation. It is not known when "Hypno Paradise" was tracked, but the overall sound is close to that of many Emancipation tracks, so it is quite possible that it was considered for inclusion in Emancipation. Asking "Am I in heaven on Hypno Paradise?" the lyric concerns a woman or a spirit, Prince's savior, who is always there when he is scorned, offering support. He describes "hypno paradise" as his destiny. Prince introduced a fast, house-influenced instrumental number on the December 1998 tour of Europe by repeating the words "hypno paradise". The instrumental was performed twice. This has led many to assume that "Hypno Paradise" was a title of a number that he came up with on the tour. However, the instrumental may have been an improvisation since it has little musically in common with the track "Hypno Paradise" made available from the NPG Music Club in July, 2001.

Lyrics:

All U can hear is the sound of my voice
Every time I touch your face
U gonna fall into a deep sleep
A deep sleep
A deep sleep

U are the reason I believe that I was born
U're always there 2 hold me whenever I am scorned
I'd give my left hand just 2 know your name
Shall I call U "Savior" just the same?

CHORUS
Hypno paradise, oh-oh-oh
Hypno paradise, oh-oh-oh

Am I in heaven or hypno paradise?
This must be heaven cuz hell was never nice
I don't need permission 2 be happy every day
As long as I got a freak like U, I'm straight

CHORUS

Oh paradise

Touch me I'll go under any spell U choose
I don't mind the loss my dear, when it comes 2 U, I'll lose
I can dig them all 2 be wrong as long as U're all right
This is my destiny — hypno paradise
Paradise (So nice)

CHORUS {x2}
(Oh yes)
(Say U wanna get it on)
(Oh yes, oh yes, oh yes, yeah yeah yeah)

U are the reason that I was born
U're always there baby when I am scorned
I'd give my left hand, just 2 know your name
My Savior, every day, yeah ooh

CHORUS
(Oh yes, oh yes, oh yes)
(Come on, come on)
(Oh yes, oh yes, oh yes)

Hyp-no paradise {4x}

CHORUS
(Hyp-no paradise) {x2}

Hyp-hyp-hyp-hyp-hyp
Hypno paradise {x2}
Hyp-no paradise
Hypno paradise oh
Hyp-no paradise

CHORUS
(Hyp-no paradise) {x2}

It was the beginning of the end of Prince's creativity in his music. He was losing his funk, his soul, and was trading it all for the sake of dry drum beats, pre-packaged sounding music, and his status in a cult sect.

The Gold Experience was his last GREAT album, and Emancipation had some gems on it. NewPowerSoul was a downward turn in some regards, and the only saving grace of 1998 was the Crystal Ball compilation. Rave Un2 is his last ditch effort to regain some pop king status. The stuff coming out in NPGMC was just trash overall.
