All the Midnights/The Morning After So I was driving home today and both of these songs came up on my iPod. (Not one after the other, but in fairly close proximity.) And I thought, "Y'know...those two songs sound like they were written together."
So when I got home, I decided to play them back to back. And while I was doing that, I saw TheVoid's post on the same subject in the The Morning After thread. So he gets partial credit for this thread. Anyway...I think we're both onto something. These two songs definitely have the same flavor. They're both light and bubbly - despite the fact that The Morning After is a bit more rocked out. What say you? We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I still haven't heard, "The Morning After." I'm sure I'd love it since I love, "All the Midnights." "The Lion Sleeps Tonight...

I always have felt that The Morning After had a Planet Earth sound to it. Especially his vocals.

"all the midnights in the world" was and is my fav song from planet earth.
i remember when reviews from listening parties came in everyone agreed the songs was one of the most horrible things prince had ever recorded. when i listened to the song the first time i was like "wtf were all those people talking about?" it's a great tune. i also like "the morning after" but not as much. it's a bit middle of the roud imo. the kind of song you know prince probably knocks out each day, just to get himself into the mood of recording something better, lol. it's a nice enough track but i prefer the retail version of Lotusflower since "crimson and clover" fits better with the overall sound of the album. i guess they could have been recorded during the same session since a lot of the material on lotus was recorded from before the release of 3121, so that would put the Planet Earth project right in the middle. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Hmmm...so maybe there's something to the trilogy idea... We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

At first i wasn't feelin "morning after" at all, but then a bit later, i listened to it again and was kinda liking it. Most of the time that's how it works for me. And then there are those few that i just can't get with no matter how many times.... .
