i'm sorry, what? I never saw or heard a bootlegger say anything.People are stubborn animals. I'm just saying in THIS very thread people are talking... including ME... but there are threads in the past describing many instances of how bootlegs got out... Prince's only version of bootleg was the "bootleg" label he put on the Crsytal Ball discs, and then his very own club edition of The Beautiful Experience video was a sub par bootleg quality release. The latter is the only time I can even remember Prince entering the bootleg way of putting out whatever you got even if it's not quite the pro source file. This may have been said above but from what I understand even a couple of ex band members leaked out (sold) a good amount of material that ended up on bootlegs..some soundboard stuff. I won't be more specific but it is somewhat common knowledge (or common rumor)

You guys claiming P was behind bootlegs don't know nothing... sorry...
Actually, I'd like to add a different tone to this topic, which goes like this: 90% of Prince's good stuff of the last 20 years is bootleg material. 1 good studio track facing 9 amazing unofficial live tracks. The 10 best Prince releases of the last 10 years were live bootlegs (as opposed to official studio albums), I'd say 7 or 8 out of those 10 being released by free labels. Most serious Prince fans nowadays have approx. 20 or 30 official albums in their collection and approx. 200, 300 or 500 bootlegs. This being said, guess how much time "fans" spend on official listenings ratio-wise..... Now think about it. He's a clever cat, eh? Releasing albums with promo-only singles? With no videos to them? And making videos without releasing the respective singles? Damn, that's record marketing kindergarten... LOL

i'm sorry, what? I never saw or heard a bootlegger say anything.People are stubborn animals. In this very thread there is a comment from a guy who was involved with the Sabotage releases and he catagorically states that Prince was NOT involved. ChronicFreeze, a former studio engineer at Paisley Park has also denied knowledge of Prince purposely leaking tracks as have many other Prince associates in previous posts over the years.

There was a time when I would post something wrong by mistake in hopes that I would get the famous treatment from Bart Van Halen. I no longer desire to do so. I myself do get a little out of it when someone calls him "Prince ROGER Nelson, or says that ANNA STASIA is their favorite song. Mistakes like those two show no knowledge of Prince's music.

So let's see, you are not interested, yet you a) are following this thread and b) are posting replies in this thread. obviously you cant read, i didnt say i wasnt interested, i said i wasnt THAT interestd. you are so lame. who cares if you know every detail about prince music because you have been a member on a public web forum for most of your pathetic life and have discussed evrything there is to discuss. are you actually proud of that??? you dont need to scorn those who are trying to honestly figure it out or ask questions. i can reply on whatever id like, if you have a problem with it, too bad. you dont have to read it or reply, yet here you are wasting your breath hollering at others when you could possibly answer the question and save yourself the heart attack. i could care less if it is getting you so worked up, actually i think its rather funny you are losing your cool over a silly thread on a web forum. the only one out of place, is you. as for my "theories", thats why people are here you moron, to discuss their ideas and concepts, about what they think of prince. why are you so grumpy? speaking of searching, if i were to do any, it would be for you, on match.com to find you another miserable partner to suit your nasty attitude. get laid, maybe it will calm you down and youll be nicer. im actually deleting my account on here because i think most everyone is out of their mind and takes being a fan too seriously. peace [Edited 1/30/10 14:20pm]

The question about why there are no new bootlegs of new songs is that there are no new songs. Prince is so deep into the church of JW he no longer writes much songs. Why do you think it takes so long to see new albums? All you others say Hell Yea!!

I hope you're kidding! Up until this last year, it seemed like he was putting out a lot, I mean: 3 official albums in 2009. If he had paced it out with singles and videos for Lotusflower and made some MPLS songs b-sides to his other 2 albums (and not put out MPLS as an album, and then the unreleased MPLS tracks got leaked by a bandmember), I think people would feel like it was back to the pattern of the 80's releases. Well dang...
I have never really paid attention to bootlegs. And I don't own any except a few videos I watched and d/l. Reading this thread makes me more interested since y'all say the bootlegs are way better than official release stuff. With that being said I would like to know the answer to the question of OP. I have heard it said that P would let people hear music he was working on and that is how a lot of music got out. Mayte even gives credence to this story since it had been said that she would send P videos if her dancing and he would send her tapes of music he was working kn when she was still underage... Before coming to Mnpls. So... What is the answer? This is posed to people who know and care to ANSWER THE QUESTION. If you don't want to discuss a tired topic... Then don't do it. Okay?? He has labels, radio, promotional resources and the internet to do that for him. Yes, people who work/have worked for Prince absolutely leaked and/or sold material to bootleg labels or middle-men. Prince has been known to go into record shops, grab all of the Paisley bootlegs and walk out. That doesn't sound like a guy who embraces Kiss The Stone, Sabotage or Thunderball as marketing collaborators. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

We may assume that most folks who work with and for Prince ended up with stuff the same way you and I suddenly have pens, Post-It notes and other office supplies in our cars and homes. The items may not have been intentionally stolen, but are nevertheless not going to be returned to the supply closet. Actually, Chronic Freeze believes that he was let go because Prince (mistakenly) thought he was leaking Vault material. The Freeze Q & A was pretty detailed about the close eye Purps kept on his songs. At the same time, he also said Prince would come back for copy after copy of a daily compilation. Freeze wasn't sure what the hell P was doing with the discs but hinted Prince may have a problem with losing shit. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

[Edited 1/31/10 13:43pm] Here's an example of how an original boot got out in the late 80's.... Prince had his car in for repairs and a cassette was "borrowed" out of the car. I think that is where a lot of the "Crucial" bootleg might have come from. This was before the internet and before cd burners. Also, Prince would often give a potential collaboration partner a selection of songs to shoose from (like he even sent Michael Jackson a collection of songs once... supposedly) These demo compilations might sit around and then get listened to and borrowed and copied... Ufoclub thanks with the info. Let me change the theory to a more sinister tone.
I have heard the quality of 300 + boots that I have in my collection and many would be of the demo variety. BUT.... What if it was not Prince who released the boots but a record label insider who had access to the material and made a little side money? I know in the 1950s and 60s. Record label execs would bootleg their artists and keep those profits off the books. Many a Artist was cheated in the process. Just a thought.

[Edited 1/27/10 20:00pm] So true because after buying all the albums up to Emancipation Era for me. I was thinking: what's next, what else can I get. Then I started looking for the related artist in this or that record store or CD store. In South Florida, you won't find many places that have his music now. When I was in Minneapolis, this past October there was a record show in Calhoun Square, some American Legion building and the vendors had a ton of DVD and CD boots of P's music. I know someone who was one of P's recording engineers and we he has a few gems he gave me and would not give me. Mums the word on that topic. Peace ... & Stay Funky ...

I think bootleggers only don't really deal with too much cash flow... only a few thousand here and there... not really pro legit amounts of money... it's not organized enough! Again though, this is my guess, because I've never been tied into a bootleggers business scheme financially. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid
