The New York Rocker was the definitive music and culture publication in NYC in the late 70s and early 80s. It was brilliantly done, both editorially and visually. Elizabeth van Itallie was the art director during much of its glory moments. Here are a dozen classic New York Rocker covers, in all their amazing beauty.

There is just something about these kinda raw images that 'professional' shots just can't touch

And the whole life revolving around it,
finding out Lisa took the picture just adds to the history... Prince & Lisa lived together for a bit, she did his laundry for Gods sake

I don't think he'll ever be that way with any current band members

I wonder did she take this one... it's also the same tiled bath space

I miss the intimacy in Prince's art, photography, lyrics, etc. I love it when photographs pop up that I haven't seen, but sometimes you have the feeling of lost innocence.

That picture is not the image I had in my head when I think of Prince and Dez in the shower together.

That Parade collage is my all time favorite!!!

I have it framed on the wall of my computer room (side by side with the 1999 sleeve picturing the band and the "intellectual" SOTT sleeve).

It also serves as the cover to my home-remasterd Parade CD.
