I think about 20-30 minutes of dialogue would have filled in the gaping holes in the narrative. I imagine that, originally, that's how Prince wanted it, but was forced to cut the film to 90 minutes or so. It's really not that bad, just confusing. Ingrid's breathy voice is annoying to me, though.
Yes you are right. A twenty minute, heart felt appology to all the viewers who actually watched the movie all the way to the bitter end would have been nice.

ronnwinter said: The first and biggest mistake he made was trying to tie this movie to Purple Rain.
Purple Rain had music..but it was a musical. No one broke into song on the street. It should have been a separate movie and story. It should have been billed as a musical, that way he would have gotten the right audience. I mean how many rockers went to see West Side Story? I absolutely HATE musicals. The only one I can bear to watch is Grease. I like musicals, but only when they're done RIGHT.People singing in the street is cool, but you gotta have the right type of song for that.Somehow,"Tick Tick Bang" is NOT the type of song that fits in a "musical",lol. Graffiti Bridge was just bad bad bad. An angel/spirit, the terrible scenery and backdrops, The stupid looking street with all these clubs, the gap in story from Purple Rain to Graffiti Bridge, like what happened to Appolonia? Why did Morris turn on Prince again? At the end of purple rain he is cheering for prince. Where the heck did this club come from? Billy was over 1st ave, but now 6 yrs later, he has willed some empty shell of a club called Glam Slam to Morris and Prince. The end of Purple Rain, prince's father is healing in the hospital and his mother at his side. Graffiti Bridge, father died and mother went looney. The pathetic climax to the movie...just bad...so freak'n bad.
The idea of a 'Purple Rain' sequel is intriguing to me,but Prince went about it the wrong way He screwed it up.

To add to that, the writer added his own comment after Prince's quote, and said "Yeah, well they didn't like Howard The Duck either." I do nothing professionally. I only do things for fun. johnart: Acrylic's old bras is where tits of all sizes go to frolic after they die. Tit Heaven.

I heard the US army had used copies of the film as an instrument of torture at Guantanamo bay. I didn't believe it though. Nobody could be that cruel, could they?

I am sure this has been said but:
It was originally longer. When it was submitted WB made them go back for some re shoots and edits. "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!"

There is an entire performance of "Can't Stop This feeling I Got" that was deleted from the film.I've seen this footage before.Prince is wearing white pants and is dancing around, even sliding down a staircase at one point. This would have been the opening scene. yeah I have seen that and I think one other song... It was a video daily or something it had the frame counter and timers and that other stuff on the edge of the screen. And I think white lines forming the widescreen format. I think I read that somewhere Supposedly, this was the big "showdown song" between Prince and the Time.

maybe we can get the special edition trilogy like they did with star wars ... insert missing scenes add special effects ...
and then prince can get to work on the prequel trilogy

The whole movie looks like it was shot at Michael Jackson's Neverland Ranch.
Maybe Prince should have made it longer by including shots of Bubbles the chimp. The public is squeezin' you kiddo. You'd better kick ass on your next album or else!

having watched purple rain on blue ray last night, and graffiti bridge like 2 months ago for the 2nd time straight through, I didn't hate GB.. but the fact one was supposed to be a sequel...that was lost on me. For all that I loved the mysticism behind Lovesexy.. when that idea spilled over into a movie it didn't work for me. It's more like a big collection of videos. And the long hair bearded look on prince was one of my least favorite at the time.. he didn't have that same vibe he had as the weird but cool character in Purple Rain.
I would have maybe liked a movie that explained what really happened after Purple Rain. Did wendy and lisa start their own music and leave "The Kid" in the dust? What happened to Appolonia? that would have been a much better start to a story.. then if "The Kid" is depressed at the beginning we know more about why. Why did he get far more spiritual? Why does everyone burst into song when they didnt before? And who told Prince dancing in that checkerboard outfit would make him look cool? lol. If you added more storyline it would have been better I think. But unlike Pink Floyd's "The Wall".. which also tells a story mostly with music alone.. Graffiti Bridge doesnt have a narrative in the songs. The soundstageyness of the film makes it look fake and unbelievable too. But even though I'm being harsh there a few killer songs on that album like "Can't Stop.." and "The Question of U" and "Still Would Stand All Time". And I always liked "Shake" by The Time. But if a long director's cut came out I'd still be curious to see it
