Like those lyrics really apply to me, because in school there's this girl I really liked last year and there were a lot of hints she liked me as well. But now it's a new year and we don't have any classes anymore so I get discouraged because I don't really see her much anymore, and now she's hanging out with a lot of boys that aren't like me, ugly assholes, and they really do always seem to let her down. And I do wanna be her lover, but not pressure her, which is probably why I'm too shy to do anything. Listening to the lyrics in depth, it's scary how much the I wanna Be Your Lover lyrics apply to me. Anybody else have this for any Prince song?

Yeah I have, and I feel like the song you mentioned applies to me, too. There are lots of parts to Prince's music that I find have some resonance with me and that's what makes them, for me anyway, so good. I find he sums up my emotions when things are going badly, even in an uptempo song like I Wanna Be Your Lover better than other artists. The way he describes love in a positive light keep me looking forward though, i'd like to have more of a connection with those songs as well at some point.
