The jocks laughed and threatened to kick my ass but I got all the chicks I wanted. I was too cool to be defined in those teenage years vbecause I took my cue from Prince - I was not afraid to be different and original. I lived it every day. I was never embarrassed of myself or my love for Prince's work. Anyone who claims they are is weak and silly - its that simple. I back Prince all the way. He has consistently made my life better for the last 30 years - and continues to do so. God bless him.
You weren't being original. You were trying to be Prince... How has he made your life better for 30 years? I was not being Prince. You dont know me to even speak on it intelligently. I have the ability to appreciate great art. That means I love music and it means something more to me than noise at a nightclub or from the radio. I feel it and live it. The music that Prince has provided through the years is the best music that I have heard. It has made me laugh, feel elated, inspired me to be brave and free, left me with some spiritual highs, taught me something about sensuality, fear, despair, and love. That's how Prince has made my life better - and I will always appreciate it. So keep your negativity, brother. You can't hurt me.

Love this song or hate it... they will be first in line for the next show to hit within a 150 mile radius of their hometown (and he could open with this track and they'd sit thru it and love it) and they will probably download this track just for the sake of completion. I know that I will. I only heard a snippet of it on the radio and didn't care for it but I'll reserve a full opinion until I've heard the entire track. The vibe on this track is that Prince is crazy, washed up, over and the list goes on. If Prince took that attitude himself then he'd have never made it past that opening for the Rolling Stones. I keep reminding myself how much I disliked 'Song of the Heart' at first. Now I love it. If we are going to be real, Prince has proved time and again that he is still the greatest live performer alive, with one of the greatest music catalogs of any artist. That is why everyone will be at his concert. The day Prince starts to disappoint on that stage, his ticket sales will drop just like his record sales have. Lets not kid ourselves. [Edited 1/22/10 20:05pm] Then all these orgers flipping out need to stop acting like one song would change everything they'd do tomorrow if a concert was announced. It's not that serious. When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Profanity is a simple choice of words, brother. I do not go to message boards in order to engage in stimulating intellectual discussion or to enlighten myself in any way. I visit them to entertain myself. So try to refrain from intermingling a simple personal choice with a strata of society (I'll dumb that down for you - profanity does not equal lesser intellect or social status). If people want to "be embarrassed" that's their problem.
Prince is a artist. Prince has release alot of things that people don't like or understand just like other artists do. To me it's not that serious to the point of being embarrassed.

perhaps you could explain it for those of us not smart enough to comprehend such an intelligent and complex theory as 'anyone who says they are embarrassed isn't a real fan' It doesn't have much to do with who's smart enuff to comprehend the question. Skywalker's question was "how can diehard Prince fans ever be embarrassed by him at this point?" ...and started by makin reference to the so-called 'embarrassment' of Prince fans for the Vikings song. Some ppl answered the question, others focused solely on the Vikings song and it strayed from there... thus my statement. I didn't see 'anyone who says they are embarrassed isn't a real fan' anywhere in skywalker's post. I swear the words "HATER" is wayyy over-rated...smh

Well, I'm older than you and in my junior high and high school years Prince was an absolute badass from "Dirty Mind" on up through "Purple Rain" which was in my senior year. He had a major influence on me as a person too since he looked extremely gay but yet he threwdown harder than any straight person out there. He wasn't the weak Judy Garland or dorky classical music icons that people like to stereotype us with. And as for his attitude, he was an absolute bitch that simply didn't give a damn and wasn't afraid to be negative if he felt the need. So when you don't like to hear any negative remarks whatsoever, then that's not very early-Princelike of you. It works both ways. Prince wasn't always into the goofy love 4 one another, Kumbaya type vibe that he's liked to portray. Andy is a four letter word.
