Much better live (Atlanta 97)...and without Scrappy Doo.

That's funny, but in the interest of passing along accurate info, his name was Scrap D.

The two songs with Scrap D are awful (okay, I do like Da Da Da a bit, especially Prince´s part in the song and the instrumentation) but Scrap D is really quite a nice person, I met him before Emancipation came out and we talked quite a lot, though not necessarily about Prince. I met him coincidentally on West Broadway in Minneapolis and it was really a pleasure to have a little chat.I don´t really like to talk about Prince with people from his circle so all I really found out was that Prince listened to all kinds of rap back then, from Busta Rhymes to Wu Tang.

I don´t like Prince´s work with folks like Tony M or Scrap D or Michael Mac but look at it this way...he supports some local rappers and helps them, somehow, to have at least a little bit of a name in the biz. Does it really work out in the end? No. But he´s Prince and he can do those things simply because he can.
And that´s also how a lot of people in Scrap D´s or Steppa´s circle felt about some of the stuff that Prince worked on during that time.
Sure, he could have picked other rappers from the Twin Cities, or maybe some famous guys who´d already made it but he didn´t. Do I like the results? No, not really but hey, it´s not that crucial. Can I say that some of that material makes me cringe? Of course, I can express my opinion in every way I deem appropriate.
Some of those dudes really make half decent music but sometimes the combination just....doesn´t ....work.
Prince collaborating with some rappers, especially some unknown local talents, never lead to good results but at least some local guy got his name mentioned on some Prince album.
That´s cool...for him at least. lol
