Can he? He's only as good as he is right now, or he's as good as his last song. in other words, an embarrassment to himself.

Well, seeing how the reaction was to the song publically, maybe he might put his stubborness on the shelf, and make a few changes. Well he told Tavis that he doesn't mind criticism when he can learn something from it, so I've given my suggestions. I'm laughing at 2freaky for suggesting the song will end his career...it won't significantly impact his standing with the GP one way or the other. I listened to the full version. it's not the nails on chalkboard that the snippet is. The only reason I listened to the song after hearing the snippet is because it's Prince and honestly I wanted to know was it as utterly cringeworthy as it appeared. It is Prince's version of a team anthem, a demo of Prince's version of a team anthem. Tweak that demo and it would be alright. Not my cup o' tea and hopefully a genre that Prince reeeeeally thinks twice before he ventures into it again. same here. i listened to the full vesion and said that it isn't as bad in context. if he speeds it up, changes some of the silly lyrics, and gives it a bigger sound, it could be good. but i doubt he will. he's probably going to go into his stubborn mode. The lyrics themselves are a bit silly, but, for me, coupling them with the layered circus-y music and the "rock n roll" in the background, just pushes it past silly into cringyworthy. I don't see the song being about Jesus, but it is a little hymn-like in its tempo and desire to be an "anthem". Yes, he says the "walking on water" line, but seeing it in context, to me, he's saying the warriors (athletes) are larger than life, god-like. Very "grrrr" in Prince lingo. Oh good grief! I feel the urge to TOTALLY dissect and analyze every tiny feature of this song. I'm not going to spend any more time or energy. Final input from me on this. (Because I know ya'll can't live without it ) *It's not totally without merit. *It should not have been released in it's current form. *Tweaked to take into the account the intended audience (Which yes, we all know Prince could care less than to conform to his audience) it would be a song the Vikings Team and fans can be motivated by. I'm firmly planted in denial

Enough with the fucking hyperbole. It's just a corny little song that people are gonna forget about in a month. In turn, His hardcore bought them, then they sunk without trace, as is the norm for him now. They were running out of classic acts for the Superbowl, Prince wanted publicity. Simple as that. what he served up was Prince-by-numbers, lapped up bt the masses sure, but it was pretty crap in hindsight. Grammy's. He should have won dozens back in the day, the fact Future Baby Mama could almost unbelievably win a Grammy in this day and age says alot about how dire a situation the industry is in. "thanks for still being around Prince, sorry we passed on you when you were truly great, but you can have a tinpot now" Wouldn't have made it to a b-side once upon a time. The new 'song'/auditory assault/dirge? It might be making news in your sheltered part of the World, outside the States? nope. Don't expect you to agree, don't want you to. It's just how i see it, is all. cheers. [Edited 1/23/10 15:04pm]

We're all fans of Prince. Sure, he's released bad/strange music before that we ALL thought was terrible. Wedding Feast to some, Jughead to many, Animal Kingdom to most... and many many others. But what makes this song different is the fact that with those songs, we knew that they wouldn't be listened to by the masses anyway! Only us hardcore people would comment, and then move on to our favorites on the album, or on to other albums that we were fans of. But this "failure of a song" is nationwide. Talk shows, sports shows, radio shows, etc. Everyone is commenting, and it's bad. I understand what he was trying to do, but like many of us realize, Prince was misguided... perhaps by his own ego again... and had no one there to put him in check. We don't want our boy with this bad press. That's what makes this song such an EPIC failure, unlike the others that we could dislike in private. I've read almost ALL of the comments on here over the past couple of days. Some are funny. Some are true. Some are beating a dead horse. But my take is that I feel bad because I hate having to hear others speak poorly of Prince, on such a national level. I kinda wonder how he'll recover. I see this as a long lasting "purple stain". AMEN! Maybe he could do a different arrangement with real Keyboards and Organ and voice like in Lets Go Crazy instead of Falsetto!!! Those keys in the original sound like a cheap Casio you buy at a Pawn Shop!

The GP don't like Prince, only his dwindling hardcore do. Yeah, he has one. To most of the GP he's the odd but talented "artist formerly known as" who did Purple Rain. I get lots of Princey feedback from people...they ask me about him because one of my goofy coworkers thought it would be funny to tell everybody that I know him. This won't impact him any more than any of the other out of the ordinary things he's done. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

I just listened to it again. You know, the exact same song might not be half as bad if a real band that knows how to do proper fist pumping anthems would have done it. (I'm picturing Cheap Trick here - they wrote the book on this.) But Prince of course has to do his standard Prince production with his childish little synth bits and flute sounds - not to mention his cute little falsetto voice. The dude is just such a flake. Thinking he should cook this up for FOOTBALL fans. How out of touch can you be? [Edited 1/23/10 15:18pm]

Wow, thats the same thing I was thinking with that Casio keyboard sound, from a artist that has Millions!

That's what I've been saying all along. The Vikings are just saying they love it to be polite and to not hurt Prince's feelings. I'm sure they aren't too wild about the song either.

[Edited 1/23/10 15:18pm] Who said it is supposed to be a stadium anthem? Prince is a genius beyond the comprehension of many low brow consumers so if it is loss on the knuckle dragging muscially illiterate majority, so be it. No one rocks like Prince - no one.
