Nope, no can do. My signature line was meant to be humorous, and that is all. Sorry that you don't see it that way. It's my signature line, and I have the right to put in it whatever I want, whether you or others like it or not. There is something called "freedom of speech", and I have the right to use it. I'm not mocking Prince, contrary to what you may believe. I know a shit song when I hear it, and I'm not afraid to say so. That does not make me a "traitor" in any sense of the word, just because I don't share your opinion about this song. Based on the comments that have been posted on this thread, I would say I'm not the only one. Judging from the responses that I've read, I doubt that this song will "grow on the public ID/conscious too". I don't share your optimism about this song, and I think I speak for many on here. From what I've recently heard, the Vikings don't like this song much either. I'm surprised the Vikings had the guts to put this song on their website, quite frankly. For the record, I never mocked the "Around the World" CD when it first came out. I actually liked that CD on first listen. By the way, telling people, "FUCK ALL Y'ALL! I LIKE THIS SONG!" is not very nice, that is "mean", and could be considered to be a flammatory post, even if you meant it to be in a humorous way. The pot's calling the kettle black. Them's fighting words, even more so than what my signature line says. It is not necessary to cuss people out, just because they don't share your opinion of this song. People are not always going to agree with you on everything, and that is just a part of life. I don't want to argue about this, it just seems silly. Let's just agree to disagree on this shall we? [Edited 1/23/10 8:44am] ha. fine. we agree to disagree, like reasonable adults.

Everytime I walk into a store and some other place where there is a radio on, I hear one of his songs. My point is, these same stations may not play much of his new stuff, but they sure suddenly found time in their day to get hold of this tribute to the Vikings to bash it. So if they could find time to do that, they could play his current music. You're not getting it. They ain't playing the new stuff because NO ONE GIVES A SHIT ABOUT IT. People don't want to hear it. They do play this abysmal tragedy precisely because it is such a low point. They ain't playing it because it's new or fresh, they're playing it because it's godawful. Actually you're not getting it. The radio stations is bringing attention to this song and it has a whole lot of people talking about it, so quite frankly it just may work in Prince's favor. It may not be a song many will like, and these stations may not have played his current stuff, but they're giving this particular song some major publicity, so it may not be the type of publicity he wanted or expected for the song. But now it has received the attention of the media and radio. I guess this is working in Prince's favor after all. It sure brought a lot of people running to this site to talk about it. Just look at the views on this thread. Over 36,000 and climbing. Although there has been a lot of criticism about the song, it has now received much attention from the media and other sources, so he's getting major publicity for a song that's in question. It just may work in Prince's favor after all, maybe not in the way he expected, but it damn sure has a lot of people talking about it. Amid the criticism over the song, I say Prince came out winning on this one.

u guys give it a few listens, remember that this is a fight song, not a rallying cry, a fight song, imo, should keep in mind that there will be battle, destruction, and impending tragedies, this song has that feel .... a fight song should also declare determination and belief of the outcome, this song does that as well , NO, this song is not "Start Me UP" to be played before they kick the ball off, this song is the one you play just before the national anthem, it is in that same vein NOTICE how are country's national anthem is not so much of a jam either... listen again tell me what u think wish u all heaven Brilliant! I really can't see the average Viking fan(who is not a fan of Prince) singing along to this song. Especially with the way the general public is trashing it. Plus it doesn't flow like a typical "Take me out to the ball game" type of song. They may play the song at the game, but I can't see it being on of those sing-a-long songs.

Considering that Prince is all about the show, it is appalling to me that he'd trot a song out this way.
He has about a gazillion high schools and the University of Minnesota right on his doorstep. Why not put something together that's a cross between Drumline and Bring It On - and make it kick ass? His heart was in the right place, but being a one-man-band isn't something that works in this kind of situation. Football is a team sport, fer cripes sake. This is just cringe-worthy. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Could you really see P being the prototypical stadium cheerleader for the hypermasculine and comically aggressive world of football? Next he'll being turning up at a WWF wrestling event. In a culture that has become overtly sexualized, P decided to shock and defy expections by being a JW. In the world of snarling, stomping and firecracking professional sports, P releases a hymn. It's his perverse sense of humor.

the lyrics don't match the impact of the melody
it's a sweet melody, but it's something my high school band or choir would pull off ya know, if the Viking's colors were green and black this song would have been inexistant "Not to sound cosmic, but I've made plans for the next 3,000 years," he says. "Before, it was only three days at a time."
