Sad to say... but I agree. To quote Purple Rain... "He better kick ass on his next album or else!" The public is squeezin' you kiddo. You'd better kick ass on your next album or else!

I don't think that is said anywhere in Purple Rain What was said in Purple Rain to Prince by the manager at First Avenue was ... "Morris is squeezin' ya kiddo. You better kick ass tomorrow night or else." I was paraphrasing. I'll say it again. Prince better kick ass on his next album, or else he may never never be taken seriously in the mainstream as an artist again. This may cause irreparable damage. Maybe I'm exaggerating, but this is what I believe to a large extent. Either that... or the Vikings better win the Super Bowl and blast this piece of shit LOUD!! I'm just going to be blunt:: The fact that Prince SERIOUSLY put this out as a legit song of any kind is telling me quite clearly that he should retire.
It's complete garbage. (And that's being kind.) Falling leaves will appear to them.. Like slow-motion rain..

The instrumentation reminds me of old traditional vikings on a quest,
making me think of VIKING moreso.

People were expecting traditional Funky Prince, but it's not about Prince. He made this song with a VIKINGS theme in mind, that's all.

to be honest though, no matter how bad this song is, i am beginning
to be more and more offended by the fact that he's releasing songs, well actually more giving than releasing, songs like this one and the remake of "large room with no light" to websites/organisations when he's got a subscription website that's been basically dead in the water for about a year now. actions like these just make that site feel like an extra slap to the face. his logic is all twisted these days. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Before listening to it I was reading these comments and thinking "C'mon, it's the master Prince, how can I make something that bad?". And I listened to it, and yeah... It's terrible! What was Prince thinking? The song sucks! Couldn't he have done something better? I mean it's slow and churcy and in falsetto. How could it be a fight song? I think it would of been nice if he did something like "My name is Prince".

Okay maybe somebody else on this thread already said this (Lord knows I haven't gone back and read all 3000 comments) but consider this, purple people.
Prince is a freaking genius. Okay, the song is crap. True enough. But Prince is the number 5 most searched thing on Yahoo right now. And there are articles on CBS.com, ESPN.com, Billboard.Com, etc. Various Vikings are singing his praises. My local sports talk show spent a good 40 minutes discussing the song today. Prince has somehow got himself back on the cultural radar just by writing a freaking syrupy fight song. That, ladies and gentlemen, is brilliant. Prince has got to know in his heart of hearts that this song is not the second coming of "Purple Rain". But at various times in his career he has known exactly the right moment to reappear and exactly the way to do it. That is why most of us are still here. You just never know what the dude is going to do next. All good things they say never last...

[/sarcasm] OMG Prince u are so stupid u made a bad fight song for the vikings this is so emberassing, it souns like a stoopid hymn[/sarcasm-off]
Apparently Prince fans are not aware of him being a JW and being a very religious person today. The way he created this song was as intended. I'm not sure what people expected to hear. People really need to separate today's Prince from who was in the past. He has changed musically and Ideally. There should be a new section of these forums called "80's&90's Prince Discussion" for people who constantly attack his modern stuff. I very much enjoy Prince today, if you don't that's fine but go punch a pillow or something instead of coming here ONLY to say negative things about him. Brofie said: This is one of those Prince songs that is simply too usual for the unwashed masses to comprehend. It has the flawless Prince production sheen and texture with those majestic layers that he can stun us with sometimes. It is actually a great song in the tradition of the fight or march song.
I love Prince for having the genius and courage to make something like this. There is nothing about the production on this that is stunning. It sounds like a cheap casio demo. Listen to the horns, man. Let's not forget to mention the cheesy vocal lines and awful lyrics.
