Arists such as Barry Manillow, Rod Stewart, and Harry Connick Jr., that have all endured with successful careers, have recently been doing great cover albums. Love Songs mostly...I Love all these guys.

Prince is more than capable of doing great covers that never take away from the original artist's song, however, add a different dimension, keeping the song alive.

We have talked about Prince covering other songs. This time I thought it would be fun to put a cover album together with Prince singing all "Old School," tunes.

What one song or collection of songs would you really love Prince to sing?

I'm gonna go work on an 11 song album and respond in a little bit.

That would be interesting, but I guess it would be more for "women"

Yeah, but the most of men won't listen to it everyday. Those love songs are more for women who want to listen to something "easy" and "romantic", if you know what I mean I just can'u imagine listening to those kind of records every day - but women will surely do

Harry Connick, Jr. chose to go into a field where most times you WILL do covers, or at least write songs that hearken back to a certain time period. Even Michael Buble is finally breaking out of that genre a bit to try and expand his appeal and catalog.

Stewart and Manilow have both done cover albums, in multitude. Stewart did old standards 2 or 3 times, whereas Manilow went systematically through the 50's, 60's, 70's, and 80's, doing popular songs, doing an album for each decade (not just love songs or standards - the man was covering Rick Astley for heaven's sake).

Manilow's latest effort is The Greatest Love Songs Of All Time. He was on QVC doing a Q Sessions Live, doing a live concert, and talking about the CD, and there was a bonus CD (with a cover of "GOLD DIGGER" - not sure if that is Kayne or not, since it's not really a love song).

It would be nice ot hear Prince do a full album of covers. He's covered songs SO much in concert, but only a tiny fraction have ever been committed to tape and released officially. He's at a point that he should do that to generate a bit more interest in his otherwise boring output lately.

I heard "Oh Girl" by the Chi-lites yesterday and I thought about Prince singing this song.

HA. I still wonder if there's another old song called "Gold Digger" that he covered. I have to think there was, because the album is "The Greatest Love Songs Of All Time", and this was a bonus disk from those sessions (per his own statement).
