I think this about falling for a girl and trying not to. Its about that feeling you get when you're desperate to remain cool and unaffected but strangely you find yourself wanting her more and more.

You don't want to let her know how you feel as you know it's too soon, but want to shout about how you feel to the world. You're frightened also that it might not be fully reciprocated and that alone makes you reject the idea if only to keep yourself from being hurt.

Its about cherishing the time you spend with a person and wanting those moments not to end, but knowing that at the moment you can't encapsulate this person into your life fully because they might not be ready for all that love.

You even contemplate leaving her alone for ever because then you know you won't have to deal with the rejection or those feelings of wanting her so bad.

I believe it was written for Mayte, during/before the time of his name change. He wanted to be with her, but wanted to wait intil he was "Free."
