The track that stops LF from being a killer album is 4Ever - that shit is almost as embarrassing as Arms of Orion!

And it has to have one of the laziest choruses of all time... "We've got Forever.... forever..... forever..." - I mean c'mon, what's with that shit??

The only thing that saves that track from being a complete dud is the guitar solo.

I guess i prefer Lotus to MPLS. The psychedelic feel of the opening tracks of Lotus always drag me in2 what could've been a great album if P kept the music ethereal... And really dig the closing track Back in2 the Lotus...

 I couldn't get why the first and last trax went so early ont he survivor here on the org. The track that stops LF from being a killer album is 4Ever - that shit is almost as embarrassing as Arms of Orion!

Actually i agree here. I always said that 4ever was that one track that had to go.

"I can be your future lover...you can be my future girl"

Yep! I really think it sounds like a Flight of the Conchords song (but not one of their best!), i.e. a Prince satire.
"We've never been able to pull off a funk number"

"That's becuase we're soulless auttomatons"

I love Prince's funky side but, try as I might, there are too many songs on MPLSound that I just don't want to hear. Lotusflow3r to me is a much weightier effort - I love it when Prince stretches out beyond his standard pop formula (see PE, Musicology). Like Rainbow Children, LF seems like a more mature effort, musically at least.

I guess it's just a matter of what types of music you dig. I think if u r mostly an r&b fan, you'll like MPLS. If your tastes lean toward the rock side more, then you'll like Lotus. So, it's just a matter of personal taste.

My tastes lean towards the rock side but I still like MPLSound better. cool
In fact Life O'The Party - which gets dumped around here - is one of my favourites.

I like Lotusflower too, but a bit less. I really like the fact that they are 2 distinct albums. I believe that combining the two of the them into one mixed genre album would lack cohesiveness and would have felt like a jigsaw puzzle.

same sentiment over here. although i can still listen to it, since i like
that album so much, it surely is the weakest link on the album. i've tried
to replace it with "somewhere here on earth" in my winamp playlist and it
worked quite well, especially with "colonized mind" coming right after SHOE.

In the last 6 years, I would rank the albums(my opinion)like this:

1.3121 (Classic Prince album and everyone loved it when it came out so don't
hate it now).

2.Mplsound/Lotusflow3r(this is a tie for me. Both have high and lows)

3.Elixer(Underrated album. If Prince sung all the songs himself, it would be at
the top of this list)

4.Musicology(Sign of good things to come album. Prince gearing up to give us
some good stuff, which is coming to fruition)

5.Planet Earth(A feeler album that had a rock, guitar vibe as well as pop vibe.
Seemed to be used to see what songs the fans would respond to in
order to map out the next few albums)

Thats my 2 cents! And That Says What?!

Personally, I hear 'Lotusflow3r' as one of his best albums ever. With musical genres becoming more and more generic and homogenized, and music listening trends becoming based on singles (as opposed to an artist's album), reviewing anything by Prince is bound to result in inconsistent musical reporting. Indeed, just as diverse as Prince's music is, so are the various reviews.

Dead on it.

Agreed. Lotus set is a friggin benchmark, Musicology/3121 were just great and talented pop albums, Planet Earth is subjective but, the Lotus set is beyond it all! No other right now has the capacity to do a Lotus other than the most complete virtuoso in popular music history, Prince.

They're both decent (which is more than I can say for Musicology or 3121).

They just don't excite.

Seriously? I loved Musicology

MPLSound and Lotus - I love both equally, 8/10 to both.

I still haven't listened to Bria's album yet. lol

And yes I like half of Musicology, the first half of the album is great, imo.

But not Life O' The Party and Cinnamon Girl.... nono I don't like these, and I don't like the 3121 album, either.

You're missing out if you haven't listened to Bria's album.

When you listen to it, I suggest that you approach it with an open mind and block out all you've read here on the org and come to your own conclusions. There are some really good songs on there. "Something U Already Know" is one of the sexiest songs Prince has ever written.

My conclusion is it's something Prince hurled and Bria sucked up. I think it's what people hear when they dog 'New Power Soul.' (One of my favorite Prince albums.)

I like '4Ever.' It's a perfect pop song. It's contagious and infectious, light, breezy, and uplifting.

Yeah i dunno what it is but i just dont think lotusflow3r flows well as an album

i mean it has some great tracks like feel better and dreamer

but as and album mplsound just flows so so well

i mean i can put that album on repeat and sit listening to it through and through and never get bored

it has the electronic stuff, the ballads and ends fantasticly on no more candy

and then it all starts again

but i just cant do that with lotusflow3r

so cos of that mplsound wins hands down smile
