I used to get excited about the mythical songs he withheld from us. I've heard alot of them over the years, loved few, and deleted many. i finally think what's in the vault is there for a good reason, it's really not that good.
Honestly imo, there are at best, (and i'm being generous) three double-albums worth of good enough stuff, and that's about it. |

1. Why does it matter if he swears or has sexed up songs? He can still make great albums with out it - see 3121. This kind of thing would only matter to people who can see his live shows. You think people are saying "awww Prince didn't say f.uck, I don't like him now".
2. His religion is his business, it's not like he is a Satanist or anything, he still makes good Music, it's not like we are hanging out with Prince and his religion is causing him to not be enjoyable around. | |

We dont know what he will do but i'd bet any money that he does have a plan and its all set out in legal forms etc. My guess is he has one last album he will release after his death, one he has already written ages ago and he keeps going back to from time to time to tweak it and add to. Hopefully a fukin good box set. The rest of the vault will just get wiped. Prince always likes to be in control so I cant see him not doing so in some way after his death. Sounds good to me. There's no way I'd want to see someone else mess with Prince's material. Especially the way they did remixes, ad libs, duets etc with Elvis,Tupac, & Biggie's stuff. [Edited 1/21/10 15:07pm] | |

But then again Jimi had a lot of material released. So who knows? As for me the loss of P would be heartbreaking... I wouldn't want to see anything released against his wishes.

Hmmm. Honestly, when people talk about him not swearing any more, I really think it's more short hand for the ideology in the music then compared to now, as opposed to the actual cussing. Seems logical from a fan perspective, but somehow I think a lawyer like Londell will end up with the rights to things, as MJ did with his stuff to some degree. My biggest concern isn't that the vault stuff won't come out, but rather if it does, will it be highly edited per Prince's dying wishes. I mean, isn't he just  enough to have this clause in his will:

Sheila E. might be free to release things and probably wouldn't worry as much about the cursing as Prince would. But it's all conjecture. I don't want Prince dead, but I do want that vault material. It's a fucking shame that after 17 years of being dead, Frank Zappa still has albums of stuff coming out. Prince is alive and stagnant in his music, his releases, and his connection with his fan base. The same bitchy, "Let's sue them too" fan base that has kept him neck high in his little Cuban boots, his silk blouses, his tailored pants, his OxyContin, and helping pay his electric bill at Paisley Park. In a recent interview on All Day All Night boot in Paris he DID SAY he will find a reliable ways of releasing vault material "in years to come" he says with a diffrent method of distribution. Ha ha ha... magnetic tape recordings don't last forever. after decades of storage they will disintergrate. even under the best storage conditions there still will still be damage to the audio quality. unless he digitized everything, which I doubt. |
