I watch this a lot! Apart from the Purple Rain tour it's the only live video of Prince I have. Can't believe it was live on channel 4, I wonder what the pensioners made of his clothes...

My boyfriend was looking after his auntie's cat while she was away recently & I went over to keep him company, turns out his auntie is a massive Prince fan & had all of his CD's including the Lovesexy tour on DVD so I made him watch it biggrin

It's the only video I have saved over time. Everything else comes and goes.

I loved Lovesexy in Los Angeles, November 1988.

I am torn between this and the First Avenue show in '83 where he introduced the Purple Rain songs. Electric Intercourse still blows me away.

Agree with you about EI. It's a tough call, and I'd hate to HAVE to make a choice. Usually I can't stand the condensed version of his songs, but he made them work for me on The LoveSexy Concert. wink

I know wahat you're talking about !
I've watched this concert so many times, I know every expression of Prince's face and the crowd.

Great concert and it proves that Prince has to release more full concerts on DVD !

I watched the dvd of this for the 1st time last night. I think after watching it, I came to an understanding why I'v never liked it.

I started by going back to Dirty Mind at the Ritz, and worked my way up to it. I think Lovesexy is when for me he totally lost the feel of a rock star in a band. Don't get me wrong, its a huge stage, with great sound, full of color, but its not the plug it in, turn it up funk that every show before that had at some point.

I have read how many people in here love this show, its the best..... I have a book that calls it the greatest show on Earth.., but I would much rather have been in the audience for any show before that. I guess I like a rock concert experience.. Lovesexy to me is kinda like Pink Floyd's " The Wall" or The Who's "Tommy". Its more of an opera than a concert.

An opera is not a bad thing. I know everyone has different tastes. I guess I would have just loved to have been at a Controvery show. I get a kick out of the guitar jack off. 1st Ave 83 would have been great, But thats for me. It just seemed after Purple Rain was so HUGE, he ran from what he had built up to being, or maybe he just took the rock star thing as far as he could go, and wanted something different.. I'm still trying to figure out why he skipped Roadhouse Garden and put out ATWIAD.

But as far as Lovesexy for me its 2 hours of opera, brodway, filler, with Prince dressed like either Mozart or a the guy from Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Question for the folks: Has the sound from the LA shows ever been leaked? I've never heard that, but having been at one of those shows, I was always curious.

As a SHOW it is indeed great, but musically messy. The piano sequence is the best part.

It's a bit spastic at times, but over time, I've grown to understand what he was doing and trying to accomplish through music. Act I and Act II were quite different, and Act II of the show seemed more fluid. The first act was all about the "bad", and the frenetic pace of the music reflected that.

The Palace aftershow, obviously. And Nov 7th is out there as a pressed and as a fan release. Never heard about others, though.

To my best knowledge, I went to the show at the LA Arena on the 6th. It was a Sunday, and I was in LA staying w/ my aunt and uncle. I was in the Navy in San Diego, and went to LA for that weekend. I took a very late bus back to San Diego to get to work for Monday morning. There was another show Monday night which I did not go to obviously. So if it ever leaked, I'd want the show from Sunday Nov 6, 1988.

I couldn't find the name of the boot. I think they are wrong on the running time, or they just didn't get the whole show. I also found it interesting on the cities that he played multiple nights, a lot of the time he either did the piano medley or Alphabet St., not both.

Interesting take. Back then the best show where the full on opera"esque" shows. Gotta luvv the 80's
cool

If you read the history of the tour. Prince was really proud of it. And felt it was pushing the limit. Just think of all the balls he had in the air during that show.

it truly was Prince`s best ....SHOW!

He did both, as I remember it, the night I saw it.
