Great song, though. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

I remember reading somewhere that the long intro to 'Condition Of The Heart' was similar or influenced by another piece of music by another artist. Any ideas on what that piece was?

Really love the song, but hate the loooong clumsy synthy intro.
Every time I hear it now I think, 'I really should get around to chopping that out'.

One of my favorite Prince songs.
And while the intro sounds dated as hell now, I love the gravity it lends to the song... it also completely flips the pace of the album.

Every time I hear it now I think, 'I really should get around to chopping that out'. i dont like the intro either, too long I've edited the intro a bit as it has 2 bits of silence so it starts after the second gap, i've also edited the end of Temptation with the horrible Talking to god bit, it's a ashame he went too far with that one, 1 way to ruin a crazy freaky assed rock song, i love the screams in that 1! She Believed in Fairytales and Princes, He Believed the voices coming from his stereo

from the very start, rumbles piano glitters and quirky synths. i prepare myself for something out the ordinary.
a small kick jumps into the actual composition aroun 2:00. hearing drops of indian cymbols before a natural guitar slides together with more syths. the piano work is soft and introspective as prince sings how love ache and lorn. and how. "its a shame how sometimes money buys u everything and nothing." "thinkin of you drives me crazy" The emotion in his voice is a border line sobbing. his vocal tone from 5:00 to 5:05 realy touches me in a way that prince can... never herd any one attempt vocals like these. from there on the vocal harmonies of his backrounds is amazing. overall some of prince's most challenging music at that point in his carear. not only challenging himself but also the listener... "I'm blinded by the daisies in your yard"

This song is one his most boring songs ever...And I hate the vocals he uses.. Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.

There was a girl in Paris Whom he sent a letter 2 Hoping she would answer back Now wasn't that a fool Hardy notion on the part of a Sometimes lonely musician Acting out a whim is only good 4 a condition of the heart There was a dame from London Who insisted that he love her Then left him 4 a real prince From Arabia, now isn't that A shame that sometimes money Buys U everything and nothing Love, it only seems 2 buy a Terminal condition of the heart Thinking about U driving me crazy My friends all say it's just a phase, but ooh-ooh Every day is a yellow day I'm blinded by the daisies in your yard There was a woman from the ghetto Who made funny faces just like Clara Bow, how was I 2 know That she would wear the same Cologne as U and giggle the same Giggle that U do? Whenever I would act a fool, the fool With a condition of the heart Thinking about U driving me crazy My friends all say it's just a phase, but ooh-ooh Every single day is a yellow day I'm blinded by the daisies in your yard There was a girl (There was a girl in Paris) whom he sent a letter to... (Whom he sent a letter 2) (Hoping she would answer back) She never answered back and now (wasn't that a foolhardy) He's got a condition of the heart. (notion ...)

Every time I hear it now I think, 'I really should get around to chopping that out'. That intro is really a separate segue or interlude, there's another one just before The Ladder too. Back in the 80's Prince (and most people) didn't track these kind of interludes separately, instead tagging them onto the beginning or end of an adjoining track. If ATWIAD had been released in the CD era, these interludes would probably have been tracked separately.

Beautiful song, highly rated by most Prince fans I guess
but.... of course some here hates this song, I'm not surprised about that... Prince 4Ever.

Ps... if I'm not mistaken, "Condition Of The Heart" was chosen as best song off the ATWIAD album, on Housequake.com Prince 4Ever.
