U can't compare the 2. CB is very "epic" where DF is a quick and nifty song.

Crystal Ball is more complex and accomplished, but it takes too long and requires careful listening, whereas Dream Factory is half the length and has all the ingredients of a classic Prince track, funk, fun and incredible musical prowess, plus funny lyrics.

Dream Factory wins here, but Crystal ball is definetly a worthy rival.
So what are u going 2 do? R u just gonna sit there and watch? I'm not gonna stop until the war is over. Its gonna take a long time

Crystal ball wins. I like careful listening. razz

Seriously Crystal ball is fantastic, and I dont think length is a factor (I'm talkin musically!)

Crystal Ball is a very complex and complicated song in structure and in sound...alot of different parts. I understand why WB wanted him to edit this song. 1986/87 America was not ready for this song and let's be real, many of us would not have been ready either. Let's face it, many of us would have been 14yrs or 15yrs old when this song would have originally came out. Let's be honest, at that age could we really appreciate the musical complexities of that song back then? omfg

I agree with you. I've never listened to Dream Factory all the way through. I just can't get past the jarring way it begins. eek

I find myself listening to Crystal Ball more than Dream Factory. BUT, I prefer the longer version of Crystal Ball w/ Wendy and Lisa's full involvement over the edited one on the Crystal Ball CD set.

True that, he got the "Eddie and the Cruisers" treatment on that track.

CB.

It has layers, textures and experimentation. No other record he has done sounds like this except for maybe All My Dreams.

"Cyrstal Ball" by a long shot. from the lyrical content, to the orchestrations to the production, and layered sounds and voices.

'Dream Factory' is pretty mundane and really little more than 'movie star' part 2 with out the sarcasm that makes Movie Star funny.
