New Side Project? We all know Prince has been continuing his long-standing tradition of 'nurturing' some young hot talented proteges, and producing their albums, but what about the whole bands, such as the Time, the Family, and Madhouse? The last time I can think of was when the NPG released 'their own' albums, and, let's face it, they had a distinctly different flavour from Prince's releases at the time (or 0{+>, I should say). It was exciting to hear.
N.E.W.S. was interesting, and I'd like to see a new madhouse-style project, or even a new MADHOUSE project! It'd be a great opportunity to get to hear input Shiela, Eric, and whoever else he uses. Maybe even John Blackwell, or Josh and Cora. They are awesome, and I'd love to hear them stretch out on a few "2 nigs" style grooves. Comparing Madhouse to N.E.W.S, the MH arrangements were much tighter, more dynamic, and there was a lot more going on compositionally. N.E.W.S. was more of a jam records with a few riffs and segues between sections thrown in. And that's fine. But I was just thinking if Prince maybe feels he's not getting it all out these days, or his music needs a ittle boost of some new influences and ideas, why not turn to the people he's been working and rehearsing with for the last few years (or even old comrades) and make a collaborative album under a different name? I mean, how good was the guy who sang We're a Winner at the NAACP performance, let him sing something. Let Mike Scott and Chance Howard and Brown Mark take the band for a ride. Just something I'd like to see. Thoughts? Take it - like Clarence said:

It would be nice to see Prince go back to more of his rock roots, the rnb/rock is beautiful but whenever prince has done rock before that soul flavor can still be felt i,e the PR album. Would love to see him venture into more indie rock/indie dance/ back to his New Wave with a bit of Neo-psychedelia. Miss him using his piano too, he should do something like Bohemian Rhapsody NOT EXACTLY OR TO COPY but an example of hard rock mixed with piano composition. A little punk-funk.
More songs like 'Empty Room'. lol @ the way people turn a good conversation starter these days into talks about fellatio.

I hope Prince will get past the point of having "side projects" with hot young thangs and just focus on giving us what we want to hear--more of his great music!

It would be nice to see Prince doing this "supergroup" thing. You know, something like Chickenfoot (Michael Anthony, Joe Satriani, Chad Smith and Sammy Hagar) and Them Crooked Vultures (John Paul Jones, David Grohl..). Imagine this: Prince singing and playing guitar, Bootsy Collins on the bass, Herbie Hancock playing keyboards, add some good drummer and this supergroup would record amazing funk album..
But it's something that will never happen. [Edited 1/18/10 0:28am]

I agree, I'd like to hear a little bit more piano too, and some New Wave/punk stuff would be awesome also. A little bit of robotic rebellion. Isn't that what the Minneapolis sound is all about?
