So, really, that can't be a bootleg? Am I right? If so, how can I get hold of a copy? Someone must have it!

Ian - I didn't think that D&P and prince videos could count as "live" performances, as they are mainly videos, with live snippets. However, looking at all this live material that is already released, it kind of moots the point that ONA is his first official live album. I mean, strictly speaking, it is true, but it does imply that Prince has never released any live material!

It's a shame he never released live albums in the past... particularly with the 1995 NPG, I thought that was such a great band.

Oh lord, all that overblown keyboard-dominated shite? I used to hate that style. I quite liked TGE but not because of the sound, just the songs. I was so happy when Tommy Barbarella and friends fucked off out of the picture. Bad dress sense and a really dated style. I blame those shit songs on Lovesexy that started it all, stuff like the title track. And what was he thinking with "Glam Slam"?! Awful. Anyway, the point is, NPG of 1995 was tight as anything but I hated that style. I want real music, with as little electronic shit as possible. That goes for those shitty triggers Prince makes John Blackwell use too. The electronic stuff was pioneering in its day, and I love all the Linn stuff and 1999 era synth.. Herbie Hancock used synths well, I like that style with the old Moogs and Arps but please leave the KOrg Tritons alone!!!

I love the Rave DVD. I suppose the fact that I was there for the filming doesn't hurt!!! That was fun!! I just wish that the two songs where he jammed with Jonny Lang at the very end of the night were included! I would love to see that come out someday it was so cool, oh yea and there was some George Clinton performance that was not on there either. I wonder if this is because of these folks major label con-tracts or something. Somehow the Lenny stuff came through. Anyway, and yea. I am on the DVD! I can freeze frame it and show my kid and he'll say "Daddy!!" Cool to be able to say I'm on a commercially released DVD!

And, isn't this his 7th live release?
So, for live performances we have;
Prince and the Revolution - Live '85 Syracuse
This Parade concert (above)
Sign Of the Times
Lovesexy 1 and 2
(And do we include)
The Undertaker
The Sacrfice of Victor (aftershow at Bagley's)
and, of course, Rave un2 the Year 2000.

I'm surprised so many people seem to have forgotten all these live, official releases![/quote]

OK. What is 'The Undertaker' and 'The Sacrifice of Victor'? And what is the prince video all about?

I have Prince & The Revelution, Sign O The Times, Lovesexy 1 (look out ebay, I'm going to hunt down and kill the next person to outbid me at the last second on number 2) and Diamonds & Pearls.

The DVD is ok...not my all time favorite. The drumming is not that great see Kirky J. and some of the performances seem uninspired.

I enjoyed watching Prince essentially play second-fiddle on guitar for most of Lenny's 2 songs (what a supporting guitarist he makes), though when he does break free to solo after Lenny, you know who the master is!!! Funny though, Lenny seems very lost in Fly Away - the new, funkier and much faster arrangement is too much for him to keep up with!

What's really funny is the look on Lenny's face while he plays - he has to concentrate SO HARD just to get through his lame ass solo, to sing & play simultaneously seems challenging for him. Then you have Prince waiting to pounce - all playful, animated, off the cuff (seemingly, I dunno). Lenny can't even pay attention when Prince is trying to get some interaction going, LOL, he just ain't good enough to keep up w/ Princey... evillol
heart prince I never met you, but I LOVE you & I will forever!! Thank you for being YOU - my little Princey, the best to EVER do it prince heart

It's Great ! I watch it all the time. Prince is especially good with Lenny Kravitz and Larry does a really good job also. The Time is Terrific and the Interviews are Cool.

I have mixed feelings about it. Soem of the music is great, some of the music sounds stale, but overall it's definately a nice show, especially with all the guests. The blues section is very cool and I like this version of The Cross (sorry The Christ).

I don't like the look of it though. Although the camera is very close-up a lot of the times, I feel very disconnected from what's going on. Cold lighting, horrible caemra angles and terrible editing..

The bonusstuff is nioce, but nothing great, some more, mostly short, guest musicians doing their thing, some interview stuff which is nice to watch once and some long-winded writings which also were on his website back then.

Get it if you want to complete your collection, but don't get too hyped about it. A One Nite Alone Tour DVD probably would be much more interesting..

Daned - The Undertaker was a video released around the time of the Come album. The story goes that Prince was bored over Christmas and called up Michael Bland and Sonny T at some strange hour and asked them to come up to PP.

When they got there, Prince had a set-list that he wanted to go through and the 3 of them played. The story goes on to say that the recording was done in one take, with the 3 of them playing direct to DAT!! Certainly, it does seem to be the case! The music is fantastic, what a trio they make!! MB and ST are as solid as ever and Prince is just roaring on the guitar.

Great version of The Ride to start, then, what is a jam really, called Poor Goo. Next we have the ROlling Stones classic "Honky Tonk Woman" with crunching guitar and Princes falsetto dancing all over it. Bambi is just amazing, esp with Mike B on drums. The other tracks escape me now, but it definitely closes with The Undertaker and then a snippet of Dolphin, I think!

The Sacrifice of Victor is a video of the Aftershow at Bagleys, London UK - '95 I think. Its excellent, but not enough Prince for me!! The video feature 2 tracks by The Steeles and I am sure there are 2 other numbers where Prince is just in the back, supporting on guitar (oh yes, one being "Call the Law" - awesome guitar in this though!) so about only half of the video really focusses on Prince. A shame really, considering it was the first ever official aftershow! They are both well worth getting, if you can get hold of them.

The prince video was to accompany the album and is basically the videos that were released, some new ones and some "dramatic" vignettes of Prince and Mayte to try and help further the story of the opera, but I think its a bit cheesey! There are a couple of live snippets on there, which is what Ian mentioned earlier. Phew!

So, are 'The Undertaker' and 'The Sacrifice Of Victor' proper releases or just bootlegs?

No - they are proper, official releases. Released by Warner. They're probably deleted by now, so you may only be able to get second-hand copies. If only WB would re-release all these gems on DVD but, seeing as Prince is no longer on their roster, it is highly unlikely!
