This thread has now passed the acceptable level of famminess meaningful conversation can no longer be expected.

Your initial argument was muddy, but it was OK, but now you keep asking people to see your point while blindly dismissing all the counterpoints now resorting to the ultimate in famminess quoting Prince lyrics.

It was almost interesting while it lasted. Maybe I'll ask around Twitter to see if anyone thinks he's a bully.

i have been addressing as many counter-points as possible. to y'all out there, if i have evaded your question please let me know and i will gladly take a step back.

to the person who said prince does not communicate with us, how can we bully him...well, sometimes i think that in the context of an internet forum, people take out their bad days on him using the issues mentioned above to almost defame his character.

this is not exactly fair seeing that the man is not here to defend himself, and ironically, some of us are here to celebrate his music; no one is suggesting we should praise everything prince does though

Explain the irony. Is this kind of an Alanis Morrisette form of irony?

It certainly isn't fair, and if he actually responded or defended himself for some of the attacks on here or did a cease and desist, the same fans criticizing or bashing him, would get angry at him for doing that too. shrug

I'd be mad about a cease and desist letter, sure. But a simple response to, say, the multitude of complaints about how he ripped off his fans through LF would not be out of order. But with so many fans just giving him a pass and saying, "He's rich! He can do whatever he wants! And I love him no matter what!" then there's no reason for him to do anything but act like a bully and an ass to all his fans. There is no shortage of fams who will help him live in his deluded reality.

I think that people here give way too much of a fuck what Prince does everyday and who he supposedly does it too.

Just enjoy the music, and shut the fuck up.

If you don't enjoy the music, don't go bullying people like I see around here all the time.

God Forbid, if you actually like Prince's new material.

Too many people around here see their opinion as fact.

They think they know every fucking thing. When in reality they're just a nobody talking shit a mile a minute. As George Clinton would say.

For one- Who are YOU to say he has the wrong faith?
And secondly- Prince's music embodies the most beatiful melodies in songs of all genres and eras. It's as if you don't even know the definition of "melody".

& who are we to know about his personal relationships? We are SUPPORTERS. He is a MUSICIAN. You don't see people with the profession of dentistry exploiting their personal life. Why don't you think he's not on the cover of all gossip magazines? He's wise enough to steer in the right direction.

He doesn't need to take his "costomers" seriously. The day he starts doing that is the day he's no longer Prince- instead some puppateer like Gene Simmons.

& people think this guy is Prince lol What are you on?

Oh, so what you're saying is that it is okay for fans to defame an artist's character publically, on a site created specifically for said artist, whenever he does something they don't like. Now I can understand fans being angry about the LF site, as it was/is fans' hard-earned money that they paid to get what they expected, was said to be offered at the time of sign-up. I could see criticizing how that was handled or some other business practice regarding fans' money that he dealt with, I won't debate against that, but to get personal and defame his character by calliing him a m*fkr, a d*ck, control freak, and all kinds of other nasty names publically, is defaming someone's character. What if Prince made the same kind of comments fans on this site? ? Can you imagine the outcry from fans? This site would crash from the responses.lol

Not to mention threads inquiring about his personal life, choice of religion, members of his family, his known associates, his relationships with specific women and criticism of them, and the list goes on. There really should be some kind of better moderation as to what is allowed on this particular forum to discuss about him. It's one thing to discuss his music and collaborations with other artists, the history of his music, movies he's made, past concerts, and other related topics, but the multitude of threads publically defaming him as an individual, as though some of these fans actually know him personally, when they don't, is a bit ridiculous at times. You don't have to agree, but you can't deny some horrible statements have been made about Prince on this site over the years, from many of his so-called fans, who go to his concerts, smile in his face, and then come back and talk sh*t about him, just about on any unofficial site, created specifically for fans to discuss the artist, and will allow such content. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate the site, just think this forum could be so much better and more inviting without some of that kind of nonsense. Anyway, that's just my two cents. shrug

All I can say is some people in this site have a mean and vicious streak.
That's why I don't post here very much. I have seen people post very vicious statement towards Prince and other orgers. So mean I had to read them twice to believe peope actually post them.

Some people in here think they know everything about Prince and everything they believe is fact. At the end of the day, I don't know Prince. I can read all the bios I want but it does not give me the right to act like I know Prince either.

The problem I have with this site is way people choose to express their thoughts. Too much name calling. Nothing will change because it has bid going for a long time now. I don't think some people realizes how their posts come cross to other people.

Poor Prince. Now I only feel sorry for him. With fans - or a fansite- like this, one doesn't need enemies.
Leave Prince alone, y'all !
And the new album I will buy anyway. In the land of Lady Cacas, Prince is still King.

It has been stated openly since the beginning that this site is for the fans, not anyone else.

Your inability to comprehend that is on you, not this site.
Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it.

Sure he does. If Prince really didn't care what folks think, Housequake would still be around and Prince wouldn't be crying about how he's a "victim" all the time. He's probably on this site more than anyone.

Your comments never surprise me. but come on, getaway, according to your opinion, what you're doing is confirming that it is okay for fans to defame his character, by calling him a m*thrf*cker, and other nasty, derogatory names on a public forum, for the reason you claim he is not "smart" or because he's an easy target? That's a broad and ridiculous statement because that reason wouldn't hold up in any court room much less make it to the table. On any site, if certain comments are allowed by members, then it is because "the site allows those comments". Plain and simple. There are other unofficial Prince sites that inform their members in the rules of the site, that defamation of Prince's character will not be tolerated.

It's one thing to be upset about the way he conducted his latest website business, but that does not give anyone the right to defame his character, by calling him all kinds of nasty, derogatory names, bringing his personal life into it, making nasty comments about his associates, love interests, religion of choice or family members. If someone used that same reason to call you nasty, derogatory names or basically defame your character on a public forum, you know good and well, you, of all people, would not take that lightly. lol

You know what is hilarious though.....the same ones harshly criticizing and defaming him, are usually the first ones to run and get a ticket to see him perform or the first ones b*tching that they can't get a ticket to one of his shows. lol In the end....Prince wins.

That's a bad business model. An act can only rely on the original set of fans for so long if they want their music to have true longevity, and that's even more true now that Li'l Man has been in the game for more than 30 years. He needs to be angling toward young people more now. I don't mean the dumbfucks who think Lil Wayne and Beyonce are some kinds of musical geniuses, I mean those of us -and there are a lot of us -who actually care about and want to hear quality music. The internet is the best way to do that.

And yeah, I am a fan. A big one. I own nearly all of Her Highness' catalogue. But I am a fan of his music. From what I've heard from other fans, band members, exes, aquaintances, and other folks in the music industry, I am not a fan of the man. I'd like to be. I'd love to be able to say this guy whose career I follow and whose music I love is a nice guy. But unless everyone has been spreading malicious lies in some kind of bizarre conspiracy to tarnish his reputation, I can't.

if you think about how many people were exposed to Prince during the Musicology tour, as well as the O2 shows, surely you would have to agree that Prince was exposed to many new fans. and of that total sum of people between those two tours, surely the majority are not old school fans; prince has definitely attracted new listeners, and hardcore fans are usually referred to as the "few" faithful

And think how many more fans he could stand to gain if he wasn't so stupid in how he handles his business.

I'm not 100% sure your definition of bully is the same as mine.

Most of those items you listed would apply to prince being a soft target for unsatisfied, mislead, or mistreated consumers. lol

I would venture to say that most of the 'bullies' who, for example, got a membership at lotusfailure.com, did so due to the fact Prince himself has generate a buzz about "having recorded every performance he's ever done live" or the hoopla surrounding how awesome the site was (remember the 3 orgers he paraded through his 3121 residence for the lotusfailure extravaganza? lol ).

Yeah, I'm not getting your definition of bully. So far, Prince fits my definition far more than his fans fit it.

if you think about it, though...

should Prince's faith, approach to 'racial' identity, history, politics, his personal relationships - determine how consumers approach him. surely, the relationship between Prince and fans should revolve around his art, music, dancing and a diverse environment of people when he is seen live.

but if his music is approached from a political level, then it will also be natural that the issues mentioned in the first post will create antagonism between him and those who take different social/spiritual positions as he does

innocent

Oh, for fuck's sake. For an apologist you don't seem to have actually listened to any Prince's music. Half of what he does references race, sexuality, history, politics, and spirituality. How, pray tell, is a consumer of his art supposed to seperate those subjects from his work when those are quite often the subjects of his work?

perhaps there are aspects of ourselves which we see in Prince that makes us identify with him, like the alleged deliberate disappointments he throws at us

back to the marriage metaphor, if we really are fans according to the denotations of the word, we should celebrate his music and innovations

we should also ask ourselves what our real intentions are when discussing our perceptions of weaknesses in him...coz imagine the public sitting back and doing the same to us

Ah.. I see you are new to this place, get used to it. They examine each and every bit he does very minutely. If you think living in a fish bowl is bad, Prince actually lives under a microscope here. He is not allowed the privileges us humans have and are accustomed to. He is supposedly cut out of a very different fabric, almost celestial.

There is no shortage of fams who will help him live in his deluded reality.

i find myself asking myself...why do people listen to Prince if he is delusional, full of malice, a thief
biggrin

perhaps there are aspects of ourselves which we see in Prince that makes us identify with him, like the alleged deliberate disappointments he throws at us

back to the marriage metaphor, if we really are fans according to the denotations of the word, we should celebrate his music and innovations

we should also ask ourselves what our real intentions are when discussing our perceptions of weaknesses in him...coz imagine the public sitting back and doing the same to us

But Prince himself picks people apart. What distinguishes him from being privvy to the same types of behavior he dishes out?

You make some very important points here, though. I believe people listen to Prince despite the person they perceive him to be because he is extremely talented. Definitely, to a point, we are all hypocrites. If we were to go to a store and purchase a product and didn't get what we paid for, we'd complain to the store or take the product back. In Prince's case, a lot of his fans excuse it as Prince just being Prince.

I also think it's hypocritical to get upset over the things people say about Prince when I am witness to some of the same people rip other celebrities to shreds on this very site, especially if that celebrity is compared to Prince or says something against Prince. It is very fascinating to behold, though.

I dig your thread. It was very interesting conversation for the first 30 posts or so. it is unfortunate the conversation can't continue peacefully.

Forgive my musings for a moment, but let me reflect on the way we as fans, and those who are not but comment on Prince's art, treat the man himself.

Perhaps more than any other artist, here I stand to be corrected, Prince is critisised for almost everything he does by his own "fan" base. Some of these critiques include the following:

- he has the wrong faith
- his music lacks melodies
- his expression of black consciousness is out of sync with the digital garden
- he releases to0 little, or too much music
- he is not public enough about his personal relationships
- he does not take his website or customers seriously enough

The list is endless, but sometimes it is as if all of the above lend to feelings of great superiority of certain Prince fans over the man they are supposed to be a fan of.

Could it be, though, that the anonymity of the Internet has given these individuals a sense of boldness, so that what they perceive as weaknesses or negativity on the part of Prince, is so much more important than his many achievements or strengths...ex: lets rather discuss songs we dislike, or things about Prince that we do not like, than what attracted us to the man in the first place biggrin

Sometimes it appears as if individuals are trying to bully Prince...>>> rather be a Jew than a JW; rather sing like this than like that, rather play your guitar like this, than like that, rather date women who look like this, than...y'all know

What tickles me slightly...is that I see Prince as a person who feels his music deeply; I can picture him listening to a cd/song a million times before it is officially released. Even if we don't get into certain tunes as much as others, each of them are like children to him...he's doing his best and being himself...

is it worth trying to bully Prince

*thanks for reading if you got this far
