This is one of those early "I'm coming out" but not really "coming out" songs, where Prince deliberately played with words.

The premise of the song is that Prince is courting a lesbian (or at least a bi-sexual woman) , but the subplot that's implied and never really fully realized is that he himself is bisexual.

Prince:
Bambi, can't u understand.
Bambie, it's better with a man!

There are so many other ways of expressing to above sentiments more clearly, but Prince relished sexually ambiguous remarks like this at the time. He continuously did this throughout the early part of his career in songs like Rock Hard in a Funky Place from The Black Album where you said, "I just hate 2 C an erection go to waste."

This always pisses people off when I say it, but Prince was definately at least implying a bi-sexual tendency in songs like Bambi. How does he know that it is better with a man? Could he have not said "It's better with this man?" or "I can do it better than they can?" There were so many other ways of being more specific about what he wanted to say, and trust me--Prince ain't no dumb cookie. He knew what he was doing with those lyrics.

So yeah, it's a pretty decent song, and certain falls in one of his coming-out-but-not-really-coming-out categories.
