I think they added a great deal to particular songs. I do believe they opened up his ideas on basic things like chords. I can hear, and understand, when Wendy (on the 20th anniversary DVD of Purple Rain) talked about his basic B flat chord opening up "Purple Rain", but she added a 6th or a 9th to it and it became a more lush chord. As a musician I get that. And it shows in the album cut. We can hear a deeper sense of the music itself. It's more interesting than something more basic like the A-G-F#/D progression in "Raspberry Beret", but yet that song has strings on it, which might have been a W&L influence (wasn't it W&L or Lisa or composed and arranged the strings at the end of "Purple Rain"?). It was also Lisa's composition that opens up "The Ladder", yet there's no W&L in stuff like "Tambourine" or "Temptation". You can still hear their influence on "Strange Relationship" even though Prince rearranged a lot of their production on it for the album. So there are nuggets here and there where you can hear more W&L than others. But that's what makes those albums great. Some is pure Prince, some is Prince and Clare Fisher, some are Prince and W&L. So the lack of W&L on songs is as important as them being on a song. It's exactly what Prince was always about back then....diversity. . [Edited 1/12/10 11:08am]

[Edited 1/12/10 11:08am] Everything you said were well-taken points, but there are some people who believe Prince would have never been famous WITHOUT them. "Love Hurts. Your lies, they cut me. Well that's ignorant of them then. He was famous before their team efforts during PR, ATWIAD, Parade, and SOTT. I think W&L just opened it up a bit. He had great success well after W&L being around, especially the mid 90's when NOTHING sounded like it had W&L influence or input.

Are you joking,Prince is not Gay because he wears feminine clothes. Some people wear difference clothes and act a certain way. That's doesn't mean that he's Gay. Some Men might want Prince to be Gay but he's not.
