Well my boyfriend’s Dad got to meet Prince in 1986 I believe is the year he told me, His Dad was touring keyboardist for Frank Zappa & Stevie Nick’s in the 80’s and he also got to record one time with Prince so… naturally I had to ask what it was like.

He told me he went to the studio and he met Sheila E & Prince and he had met Sheila year’s before so they we’re acquainted he told me he was used to playing music written as Zappa & the other people he toured for always had written music for the people to play.

But since Prince is a by ear musician he didn’t write music and just had them follow him and figure out something to do while he lead, He told me Prince didn’t speak to him much and that he was distant he said he wasn’t rude just very distant and quite, So they recorded for a few hours and they left and Prince said thank you and went back in.

A Few month’s later Robert my boyfriend’s Dad met one of the musicians he worked with in the Prince recording he said hi and then he told Robert that Prince is very stern with his band mates and fires anyone who look’s him in the eye?????

WTF??

Has anyone ever heard this before I mean I know prince is… ‘’Out there’’ but does he really do this?? Robert said he never experienced that but said the guy said he was serious about it…. Hmmmmm

Either way it’s an interesting story lol Robert also told me he think’s the recording was never used and I told him he probably put it in his vault

The reasonable explanation is that there was something other than eye contact that lead to the dismissal.

I dunno about the "fire anyone who looks him in the eye" thing.

Squirrelgrease once put here a Prince interview in which he says (Prince, not Squirrel...!) that he did things like that before becoming a youknowwhat witness, fire people for just looking at him...(the magazine on which cover someone is writting on Prince's body.)

I've heard he doesn't like people staring at him. but to fire anyone for just looking at him is not true. Plus it's illegal.

Yeah I read about the whole "he'll fire you if you look him in the eye thing" in that article in Notorious. It didn't say he fired bandmembers for looking him in the eye, it said he fired other staffmembers.

That article is over a decade and it also said since he became a Jehovah's Witness, all that has stopped.

what magazine was that and what issue number (month and year)??

When I went to the Rio in Vegas a few weeks before 3121 opened, I went to Starbucks there and the staff, who was not really a Prince fan told me that she had been instructed to never make eye contact with Prince should he walk by. After that it was kinda hard for me to tell her how happy I was that he was in town. Not sure if she was telling the truth or not, but it seemed like she was.

In the end....Prince is Prince and he does many crazy thing's but that's what make's him Prince lol

I think he meant strangers, in person. Lots of people think that when you make eye contact, it's an invitation to chat or more. I can't imagine being famous and walking around with everyone staring and wanting to touch you.
