The squeaky voice being reminiscent of Camille technically doesn´t make it Camille per se, as long as Prince as the creator and artist behind the Camille character does not explicitly say so by naming Camille in the liner notes or other song credits. Artistically speaking, Camille died after the Lovesexy tour. Yep. Or better yet, based on the "story line" in the concert, he was reformed and went on to live a normal life. . [Edited 1/8/10 10:34am] And a handful of org members seem to be very upset about him moving on.

Maybe. I know Prince is better off "Here".

I really don't get why people here call this song 'funky' and one of his best songs from the last decade.
It just drags along like 'Come on' on New Power soul, it offers no exciting or suprising instrumental passages, its simply Prince on 'auto-pilot' creating yet another tuneless jam that would not even qualify to be a b-side in the eighties. I take a Hide the Bone, Billy Jack Bitch or even Chelsea Rodgers any day above this boring 'turd'.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Look if some people like the song then that means it's not really a tuneless jam to everyone. People have diff tastes & this is a prime example. Hide the Bone? I mean I like it but I'm surprised, that to me sounded dated when I 1st heard it.
OSC like many of Prince's songs does has some cheezy moments but that's like his thing. He's funny & sometimes not in a good way but it's Prince & he's diff so I accept it, though not all the time.. Not everything he does blows me away but sometimes even a sucky song will have a touch or moment of brilliance & well then it's gone. Catch it while u can I guess.. Anyway, rambling on I dig the song, it's definitely a funky track to me. I like that it's long winded b/c I never want the song to end. My one complaint is that it is a bit repetitive, but it's a whole lot more funky.

This is what internet fandom ultimately reveals and it's what we already knew, different people have different tastes. The problem is when everybody thinks that what is true for them (like their opinion of a Prince song) is the universal truth for everyone. "New Power slide...."

I like this song very much as well but then again you know he wouldn't be Prince if he gave us the single that we wanted!! THE CARDINAL HAS SPOKEN!!!

All I can hear is that Prince uses a vioce effect he has already used in the 80s, even prior to the Camille days, as it was pointed out before. Not such a strech given that the record is called MPLSound, right?
