That's gotta be Marlys from Ernie Pook’s Comeek. I loved that strip.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

I think you´re right. The squeaky voice being reminiscent of Camille technically doesn´t make it Camille per se, as long as Prince as the creator and artist behind the Camille character does not explicitly say so by naming Camille in the liner notes or other song credits. Artistically speaking, Camille died after the Lovesexy tour.

Yep. Or better yet, based on the "story line" in the concert, he was reformed and went on to live a normal life.

Camille, now, sounds dated, and belongs locked in 1987/1988 time period. He's better off there.

I really don't get why people here call this song 'funky' and one of his best songs from the last decade.

It just drags along like 'Come on' on New Power soul, it offers no exciting or suprising instrumental passages, its simply Prince on 'auto-pilot' creating yet another tuneless jam that would not even qualify to be a b-side in the eighties.

I take a Hide the Bone, Billy Jack Bitch or even Chelsea Rodgers any day above this boring 'turd'.

Look if some people like the song then that means it's not really a tuneless jam to everyone. People have diff tastes & this is a prime example. Hide the Bone? I mean I like it but I'm surprised, that to me sounded dated when I 1st heard it.

OSC like many of Prince's songs does has some cheezy moments but that's like his thing. He's funny & sometimes not in a good way but it's Prince & he's diff so I accept it, though not all the time.. Not everything he does blows me away but sometimes even a sucky song will have a touch or moment of brilliance & well then it's gone. Catch it while u can I guess.. Anyway, rambling on I dig the song, it's definitely a funky track to me. I like that it's long winded b/c I never want the song to end. My one complaint is that it is a bit repetitive, but it's a whole lot more funky.

This is what internet fandom ultimately reveals and it's what we already knew, different people have different tastes.

The problem is when everybody thinks that what is true for them (like their opinion of a Prince song) is the universal truth for everyone.

People don't think that. Some people are just disrespectful of opinions that differ from their own. It seems the NET gives some people more reasons 2 be a**holes.

Ever seen Mommy Dearest? Prince trying to be Camille now is like old Joan Crawford trying to be baby Christina's replacement in the Soap Opera when she had to go to the hospital.

Prince trying to be Camille at this point is like Baby Jane trying to reclaim the glory of her baby doll days lol

Hold on for a sec... People say just because he is using the altered voice it isn't Camille, and that it only is Camille if your booklet says so, but now neither the booklet nor Prince claim it to be a Camille track, yet you say it's wrong on Prince's part to try to be Camille again? nuts

oh please. You know he's pandering to his superior alter ego and trying to con fans into believing that glorious bitch is back. we're stuck with Baby Jane, unfortunately lol

I don't know, I can't read his mind... All I can hear is that Prince uses a vioce effect he has already used in the 80s, even prior to the Camille days, as it was pointed out before. Not such a strech given that the record is called MPLSound, right? wink
