Its great, okay it has a shit hop feel, but a positive message, and songs with a positive message I like. Besides its Camille, how can it go wrong.

Every time Prince uses a squeaky voice setting doesn't mean it's Camille. It's NOT Camille on this track, or "F.U.N.K.".

At this point, it's a bit of a misnomer.

A bit like calling all cotton swabs q-tips, even though the terms are not interchangable.

For me, that voice effect will always be Camille...whether it is listed in the linear notes as such, or not. Was Camille really much more than a stylistic approach that Prince used (and often reuses)? I mean, beyond the Lovesexy mythology ?

Seems like a hen-egg problem to me. What was first? The creation of the alter ego Camille, and then Prince decided to associate that alter ego with the electronically modified voice, or was he playing with those vocal effects and then decided to create a whole virtual person to be associated with it? Anyway, it might well be that Prince still likes the sound, even if he is not too interested in the whole mythology he once created to go with it.

Unless we know for sure what Camille meant to Prince, it's a bit tricky to argue what is Camille and what isn't, unless you strictly limit it to the information given in the respective liner notes (i.e., it is Camille if the booklet tells you so).

And don´t forget he´s used a similar voice even before SOTT and Lovesexy. Love or $ and certain parts in Erotic City come to mind.

Piss off with that nonsense.

Until Prince puts "Camille" on a record and truly resurrects the character, I don't consider every version of that voice effect to be Camille. Camille was kind of its own thing back then. I'd like to think Camille is off being the person Prince refuses to be now.

I think you´re right. The squeaky voice being reminiscent of Camille technically doesn´t make it Camille per se, as long as Prince as the creator and artist behind the Camille character does not explicitly say so by naming Camille in the liner notes or other song credits. Artistically speaking, Camille died after the Lovesexy tour.

Yep. Or better yet, based on the "story line" in the concert, he was reformed and went on to live a normal life.

I feel like you have to be Ol' Skool Prince listener and have drudged your way through all the music..... AND I MEAN ALL OF IT... that he has made in order to like this song. It's just got that mediocre Prince style that some of us Orgers just can't seem to get enough of.

Exactly.

The worst crap Prince writes still shows more imagination and talent than 90% of the shit on radio today. All these dudes writing in a Prince style just write a profane tracks with some chick moaning in the background. Where's the 'Purple Rain styled track' or the 'Sign O' The Times styled track'. You'd swear that Prince only did the Dirty Mind album and some naughty B-Sides if you listened to those claiming to be influenced by him.

r u sick?name something funkier on radio.in fact name something funkier period and not by prince. this funk is dragging and its all that, nobody can funk like p ,stop tripping.

Yeah, that's why it's all over radio, has a amazingly innovative video, and is a bonus DVD-ROM on the CD maxi single.

Oh wait.....it's not.

-----
Please name any other independent artist that are receiving radio play. In addtion, anyone that thinks this song as anything to do with hip-hop is smoking crack.

The song is pure funk and some of you need to turn in your funk card. Of course most of you never had a funk card to begin with.

Was he mad you were playing his boots? I can't imagine him being upset you were playing his released tracks.

You know he loves to control his music. I've seen him up close more than a couple of times, he has a beautiful aura around him.
