The Ballad of Dorothy Parker I got courious if in The Ballad of Dorothy Parker, if Ms. Parker was a real person, so i looked on Wikipedia and she is a real person....
but is Prince really talking about this lady because i cant seem to find the connection between the two. u guys tell me what you think. Money don't matter 2 night

Dorothy Parker was a real person, and a very funny one.
If memory serves, Prince didn't know who she was at all. Susannah, who is more educated in some areas and more worldly than Prince, knew and clued him into Dorothy's actual existence. I could be wrong on that story, but it seems like that's how it went. In the end, I don't believe he wrote the song about the real Ms. Parker. of course, there's also this Ms. Parker  | |

Maybe Prince just used the name Dorothy Parker, when the song was inspired by a waitress that he met. I don't know.  "The Lion Sleeps Tonight... | |

Some others were discussing this on another thread. It seems Mr. Rogers had a dream and Susannah filled him in on this woman. I like Dorothy she seemed to be funny and talented in screen writings, with the orginal "A Star is Born" to her credit. I found it touching that she would leave her blessings to the MLK Foundation, which would then get passed to the NAACP after his death. They have a plaque there with her last requested thought: "sorry for my ashes" | |

i don't believe for one second that he'd never heard of dorothy parker.
it's not a name that just comes to your mind when you're thinking of a female character for a song. although half the lyrics make no sense when related to the real D.P, there are certainly bits that seem about her: i needed someone with a quicker wit than mine, dorothy was fast... ...dorothy made me laugh and true love lives on lollipops and crisps | |
