Some of you orgers had excellent ideas, here are some: 1. Wear your Prince Tees. 2. Take your favorite Prince CD to the club and ask the DJ to play some songs. 3. Ask / write to your fave radio station to play Prince music. 4. Change the way Prince is marketed in your local store.. bring his CDs to the front or at the bookend shelves so that they are more visible... What else? [Edited 1/5/10 14:43pm] Go to your local church and tell them they're worshipping the wrong God?

I just still wonder if there's any possible way for him to still get his 1978-1995 albums back...
Just a thought that's been bugging me lately [Edited 1/5/10 17:58pm] Yes, at 19, I finally saw the Revolution, a legendary band. And I talked to Wendy!!! In addition to seeing Prince, I have now lived life. Thank you Purple People!!

I think 'we' as prince fans have been promoting him as a musician for years: prince.org Prince of course graciously thanks ben from time to time by sending harassing letters form the NPG ilk. I converted 3 people to fans back in the 90s. But now, I wouldn't dream of it. So many people find him so off-putting due to his relationship with his fans. The media only reports his actions, and people notice. And people aren't impressed. At this point it's almost like trying to put a good face on the bubonic plague--nobody's going to listen. I can't think of a single DJ (and I know a few) that would be willing to clear a dancefloor with wack, outdated mixes of Prince's material, especially Dance 4 Me. But I do think prince has the perfect. The absolute perfect conduit for promotion--that's prince.org Sure, it's brilliantly diverse, and unapologetically independent (if his material sucks ass, we'll say so), but it is famous around the world. There is no single source of 'prince' news more popular than the org. Prince can better influence what people say about his material or actions on the org, but putting out...well, good material, and keeping his pie hole shut about gay and women's rights. Cease and Desist, ala George W. Bush tactics won't do it. So, in again... Prince has the perfect promotional tool already: prince.org He should be paying and thanking ben instead threatening to shut him down. --imago

Actually, it always confused me why he wasn't invited to be mascots at gay events prior to his JW conversion. And the first time I heard the title "Rainbow Children", lawd hammercy I think the gay community could actually sustain prince's career if all else failed, honestly. Look at what they're doing for several far less talented musicians. And if you look at the cross segment of orgers (To include moderators), many have been gay or lesbian. Prince has mondo gay fans. Gay events could play Prince's music and better promote his stuff. Certainly better than the straights are doing right now. I swear, if and when he ever comes out of the closet, he's gonna have a lot of gay fans saying, "we coulda help you, but no "

And no one in retail appreciates some brat trying to rearrange things. If people don't like Prince, they are just going to look past it anyway. I'm not pplrain ernest...I don't have any other screen names. I keep Prince in conversation whenever I am asked what music I love. My ideas of promotion would include Prince's authority. I think it would be nice to have some glass ornaments made for Christmas. ( I guess Prince wouldn't even go 4 that) It's all about the money it takes to make and distribute something. If I walked up the highway nude with Prince written on my back or something, I only think a few people would go buy his records. "The Lion Sleeps Tonight...

I'm confused as to why you feel we need to promote his music. If people like it they'll listen to more, if they don't they won't. Those of us that are older don't really develop crazes for artists any more and those around that are younger don't want to be listening to some old guy. I mean, come on, how many youngsters have developed a fanatical interest in the Rolling Stones over the last few years? Not as many as have those that have heard Kings of Leon for example.
Prince is an old guy now (his next big birthday is 60 remember). He has no business in the pop charts: or at least as little as Cliff Richard. The crowd I mix with have decided upon their musical tastes many years ago. They sure ain't gonna start liking Prince now.
