The real Prince is different from his "onstage persona"

A few people who know him have told me that.. whatever does it mean??

I like how he puts his emotions into words and in his music.. who can fake that?

You don't really think the way Prince struts onstage and acts is the way he is 24/7 do you? You think MJ was moon walking to get a snack? You think Madonna is rolling around on the living room floor, all horny and sexy and shit? Does Janet go around wearing leather outfits, tying folks up for the sake of a cock tease?

These are just people, like you and me. They just have a bit more attention and money.

a friend of mine who works for a big tour promoter once told me that, in order not to be nervous when he had to deal with rockstars, he always imagined them in the bathroom, and that helped him see them just as humans:-D

I wouldn't say he's "different" from his onstage persona, but I would say certain aspects of his personality R more evident... the MAIN one being his humour. He is very funny. The humour and impressions we hear on record, or even in interviews, etc, is a tiny fraction of his humour.

Folks always think (and state) that he's 2 serious... well, he is deep, and pensive, as any truth seeker, but he's very funny as well.

Ernest touches upon something above, which I will expound on now...

The most common impression upon meeting a "famous" entertainer, artist, etc, is usually how down 2 Earth they R. Kind of like how one acts at someone's house vs. how they act in their own home.

Although my experience with Prince was not in person, as was with Stevie Wonder, Herbie Hancock, etc, etc, it was easy 2 hear the difference between Prince in an interview, and Prince on the phone.

He's cool.

I will also say that he gives/shows MUCH more of himself through performance than most artists do.

if it wasn't such a pain in the rear

but yea, look at Angus Young. Though he's spent a good fraction of his life in that school boy outfit onstage managing 40 headbangs per second w/ crazy maniac antics... he's acturally a really chill shy dude.

& Then biggest of all Alice Cooper! All the gore and make up is just for show.
Heck he's a devout Christian! and golfer lol

there's just something about these artists... they have a precise on and off switch

unless your Lady Gaga.. freak 24/7! a cool freak nonetheless

as a playwright, i can kind of tell tell you that his stage persona is probably a focused fraction of who he really is.

writers (particularly novelists, poets, musicians, and playwrights) do tend to write fairly autobiographical stuff under a veil of fiction. i certainly do, and i would suspect he does too.

but it has to be condensed down and often includes liberties to make it more dramatic and interesting, not to mention more artistic and less theraputic.

don't think just because his stuff is semi-autobiographical that you know him in the slightest. when artists work this way, they are showing you only what they want you to see. a lot gets hidden or left out.

I'm sure there are elements of the 'real' Prince in his onstage persona, which is why HIS brand of onstage behavior is different from other artists. Aren't we all different at work?

No offense intended here, but surely anyone else reading, HOPEFULLY, knows that the people they see on TV and on stage aren't the same people in real life. Sure doesn't take a playwright (of which I am one too highfive) to tell folks that. But then again, common sense escapes folks sometimes.

Except the original poster.....perhaps.

I realized I had some Kevin Smith DVD that a friend got me from Big Lots for like $3. It's "An Evening with Kevin Smith 2: Evening Harder". I really have no opinion on Kevin Smith one way or the other. I've seen parts of his movies, and I'm only vaguely familiar w/ his ideas on things. But I popped in the DVDs. One was from Toronto, and one was from London.

In the Toronto one, he followed up with the Prince story, and talked about Prince's assistant Stephanie calling him and telling him about naming her in the last DVD, and how Prince was pissed off. He said the scoured Paisley Park for that release form, and of course he never signed it. He wasn't mean to Prince, but he wasn't that kind either. When asked later "Who is the biggest dick in Hollywood?" someone in the audience yelled out "PRINCE!"

That's a shame. Prince doesn't even live in Hollywood.

Not really a shame. The truth is the truth. Prince is imperfect and fallible. We all know he can be a dick, and a great guy. Kevin ain't making shit up. People were there for the preaching at the Celebration. The story stands as truth.

You know darn well "Hollywood" is a euphenism for "celebrities". Let me remind you that Prince has lived in Hollywood in recent years, especially during the 3121 time and up to Planet Earth too, especially since he tore down both of his Minneapolis based homes.
