I'm pretty sure it's from the 8/3/83 benefit concert at First Avenue. I haven't listened to that in a long time though so I might be wrong.

I don't know if the First Avenue show is part of the Purple Rush series, but "Electric Intercourse"'s only recording is from that show in 1983, as TBeatty mentioned. There's also a recording from the rehearsal earlier that day.
"Purple Rain", "I Would Die 4 U", and "Baby I'm A Star" were all recorded there, and those takes (with a bit of overdubbing and lyric correction) ended up on the album. Those songs were "premiered" as well for the first time, as was "Computer Blue" and "Let's Go Crazy". Good show. There's video of it as well.

Get a copy of Per Nilsen's Prince DMSR - The First Decade. That story is in there. Prince had a mobile recording truck rented for the event. It was a bit of a last minute idea. It was a blistering hot night in Minneapolis, and even hotter in the club. (I've been in there.....the ventilation is lacking at times.) They played the show, and Prince later asked the engineer "Did we get it?" He was told Yes, and he went on home. If you read the credits in the Purple Rain album, it notes that those three songs were recorded at First Avenue in the summer of 1983.

"the beautiful ones" is the third track on prince and the revolution's soundtrack album Purple Rain. produced, arranged, composed, and performed by prince, the song was recorded at sunset sound in los angeles by peggy mac and david leonard in early September 1983.
the song replaced "Electric Intercourse" on the purple rain album (1983). [rumor has it that] it was originally written for susannah melvoin (revolution band member wendy's twin sister) to woo her away from her then boyfriend. http://en.wikipedia.org/w...tiful_Ones Live life as though each moment is as precious & beautiful as a rainbow after a spring rain. b positive, creative, kind, productive, resourceful & respectful of humankind, & feel free 2 know that U-R-A . i can feel it when u shine on me

That show is the best Prince & The Revolution show circulating, period. Nothing more to add. Keep your headphones on.
