Jam of the Year Tour

Has anyone ever seen a video of the Jam of the Year tour in Louisville? I was 10 and Prince told me to come on stage. Best day of my life!

Are you sure it wasn't the May 18, 1997 Love 4 One Another tour at Louisville Gardens? No video is circulating.

Awesome. I only have memories of the New Orleans show. I didn't get to go on stage but i did get an ouaaahhh from him after I gave one right as he was coming on stage. wink
Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

It's easy to confuse the L4OA and JOTY tours due to Jam Of The Year being on both tours set lists - I don't know if they changed the name of the tour because they ran out of L4OA t-shirts or what.

i remember going to the san jose gig, mountain view & lastly oakland which is circulating on video. The best was the aftershow after the oakland date. He played at Club Townshend in SF & opened with a cool bluesy version of the ride w/ some old cat on harmonica. He also surprised by covering "The way you do the things you do" and by playing 18 & over. Good times..

I saw the JOTY show at the Target Center in Minneapolis. That's where he fell sliding down a stage ramp. I had great seats that time.

It was the July 26th show. As I recall, it wasn't bad. The sound wasn't bad either. The camera was from the first set of regular seating, pretty much in front of the stage. Not quite eye level, but a bit up. I also remember he didn't sing "TMBGITW", but rather let the audience sing it.

I saw the Toronto show. I was a senior in high school and it was the second time I'd seen him. My friend and I had lined up for seven hours a couple days before to get tickets, and the line to get in took nearly an hour as well.

Not my favourite Prince show in retrospect, but at the time it was pretty amazing. They squeezed us in tight at the Warehouse (now the Kool Haus) and my buddy and I managed to get pretty close to the stage, dead centre. It was hot as hell, and there was viturally no room to move, but it was a great show. I was disappointed at the time that he didn't play more stuff from Emancipation (I'd really wanted to hear "The Holy River" in particular). Little did I know that was the beginning of a trend.

It really was the beginning of him not fully covering an album in concerts. He originally said he would love to play the whole album, because that would be 3 hours right there. But the "Prince" side of him said he also wanted to play "Let's Go Crazy". He could have picked better songs though overall. Stuff like "Damned If I Do", "I Can't Make You Love Me", "Sex In The Summer", "One Kiss At A Time", "Saviour", "White Mansion", etc would have been glorious live.

You're right it was Love 4 One Another. I was confusing it with the Lexington show I saw. We have the audio of the Louisville concert, and it's exciting to hear him call me up during Mr. Happy. I guess I'll be looking forever for video or photos of that night.

Interesting. Might have to check it out.

I fucking hate audience sing-a-longs - even when he points the mic to the audience for a verse, it just riles me up. I don't like the word "hate", but it fits here. Completely ruins the song for me.

Neither the Lexington or Louisville shows are circulating on vid. And since was grabbing cameras at the door even back then (and cell phone cameras were not around), pics might be super hard to come by. I would certainly check local reviews by news organizations in your area and contact the writers, as they are often allowed to take photos with press credentials. They may allow you access to their archives.

Awe, seeing the tour list makes me so happy. My first Prince concert was the JOTY Buffalo show. I was a freshman in high school, and got ridiculously awesome seats. I had started liking him only a few months before, so I didn't know too many songs... but the show solidified my love of him. Too bad my Musicology seats weren't as great, though.

P. S. I dislike audience sing-a-longs. I am not paying big bucks to hear other people sing!! (I know it's nice camaraderie, but still... we can all do that for free at another point in time.)

P. P. S. Anyone have a JOTY set list?? I had a link to the Buffalo show saved a long time ago from the Org, but I don't know where it is...

I enjoyed the JOTY tour - Went to the Carolina shows. Did the whole camping out stuff. Had great seats at both shows. I camped out one night in Hampton, Va for a scheduled show, interviewed by the local paper, had a nice big pic of me on the front page with my front row seat tix, I had the two seats directly in front of the mic!!! Camped out all night, got the tix, got on the road to Carolina, had a blast at the concert and aftershow, on the way back to Va, heard on the radio that he cancelled the Hampton show due to his throat being sore! I was so disappointed! That was a great year, I went nuts signing up for tix and traveling all over the place to see him! It was a lot of fun for me and my husband. cool

I think you're right. But if I recall correctly, he said that after a mini tantrum of throwing down his Symbol guitar and leaving the stage. Then some stage hands came out and wiped the already dry ramp down. He actually may have hurt himself.

How can you even say that eek

I fucking love the audience sing-a-longs even when he points the mic to the audience whether I am there in person or just listening to a cd show. nod

Seriously? No... seriously? Maybe it's just a peeve of mine. hmmm

I paid to hear the artist perform, not 30,000 some odd fools up in here.

I had sing-a-long Sally behind me at the 7/7/07 Target Center show doing the most incredibly shrill deconstruction of every damn song in the set. And the twat screamed a lot too. mad

On top of the horrible seats I had, it was a crappy experience to say the least. I will never attend another arena show unless I am assured great seats - and that's damn near impossible now with the scalper bots and Minnesota legalizing the practice.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.
