Am I alone in being totally bored by Prince?

I have spent most of my life as an immense Prince fan. However, I have no hope whatsoever that he will do anything interesting again. There have been a few moments of pleasing music in the last ten or so years, but the Prince who put out songs that didn't sound like anything else, that had great vocal arrangements, the Prince who could allow healthy collaboration, and who didn't record music out of fear of being irrelevant is long gone.
For me, you'd have to go back well over a decade to find an album that was interesting and high-calibur.
Why am I here? I think I was bored and I sometimes check this site out, but I have never been less enthusiastic about Prince.

I never understood this.

I liked Master P's 10 years ago, but I don't go on his fansites talking about how much I haven't liked his music in over a decade.

Obviously, he hasn't been as boring as people say he is if they come here.

This site isn't about butt kissing him either though. Coming to Prince.org doesn't = loving all things Prince. This we know. We're not the sheep people think us to be.

I understand what you're saying. I think the boredom can be attributed to having been accustomed to such high levels of musicianship year after year. We were in essence spoiled and grew to expect great music from P., as well as other musicians.. It's hard to get used to not having that annual rush when P. released an album.
Not to mention there's not lots of great mainstream music going on. I have kinda gone into my world music/indie bag, and have found a bit of solace there.A lot of these artists are hungry, and this is reflected in the passion that's in some of the music.

I can understand if you didn't like his last album, or even his last 4. If you say he hasn't entertained you in a over a decade.

Makes no sense. Most people would''ve forgotten about the artists that have stopped entertaining them over a decade ago.

Bingo. Just because Prince is lame since about 1999 or 2000 doesn't mean stuff from 1978-1998 isn't exciting, alive, and thrilling.

Take away the gigs-and these days-there aint a whole lot left-and since he does not 'tour' anymore.....

thank God for boots-cuz man it would be TOTALLY boring and shit these days without em'

i have been bored with any mention of the famous 'vault' however now for a while. Its supposed to be filled with gems-that he does not release-and we get.....mediocre-unmemorable stuff instead. That makes no sense-unless the vault is now b/s-and is filled with mops-brush's and the cleaning staffs supplies

i liked lotus when it came out-but have to be honest-its the quickest P project to go off my radar so far-probably got about 3 months listening-have not had any inclination to play any of the three albums since about July

as i mentioned-i have however been into the boots this year-so thank God for em'-these days-he'd be lost without em

I remember when I first heard the Come album. Haaaated it. Now it's one of my fav's. I think you always have to give Prince a chance (no Lennon jokes, please). Sure, there's some filler on MPLSound and Lotus, but to not even listen to them?? I can honestly say I've get the same amount of pleasure from listening to the NPGmusicclub stuff and album tracks over the last 15 years than the stuff that came before. Sure I may make my own playlists and he's not quite as surprising, but I think he still delivers. I fuckin' love some tracks of the last 3cd. Love em. You should at least check it out.

I'm sorry to hear he's kinda dead to you now.

Sort of understand what you're saying... but, if you go and listen to some of the music being released at the moment, it firstly reminds you of the huge influence Prince has had on music over the years, and secondly allows you to 'hear', for want of a better dscription, the music you perhaps wish Prince was making right now...check out Passion Pit, Kids of 88 and Computers Want Me Dead... very new wave... very saturated in most things Paisley... very much the sounds I would like Prince to be pushing now.

It ain't the 70's, 80's, or the 90's.

Funny how Prince is supposedly "lame", yet this is the 2nd most successful period in his career.

Maybe you're the one who's not exciting.

It's so funny when people say "I only listened to his last album once"... that says to me that you aren't even willing to give his new music a chance.

Is that really Prince being boring or is it you making your mind up that you don't like something before you've even heard it?

I'm not overly-zealous about most of his 00's work either, but gems like Colonized Mind, Dance 4 Me and Crimson & Clover really deserve more than one listen.

No, you're not alone. I've been bored for years now. His live shows also bore me. His setlists are becoming more varied, but his performances/showmanship is practically zilch these days. Have been for at least half this decade now!

The only reason why I still consider myself a "fan" is because of his earlier work. Thank GOD for bootlegs, live and studio!! Those works are enough to keep me at some level of fandom, though the level is MUCH lower than what it was, say, 10 years ago.

I agree with that. The o2 shows were a snoozefest. He just casually strolled out, performed the same tired hits over and over, pulled the odd orgasm face while playing the guitar and that was about it.

Now I know the dude is in his 50s, so I'm not expecting him to be jumping off pianos and doing the splits, but still...

I personally think him finding god led to his output in recent years being somewhat dull.

Then again 'lovesexy' was quite intresting.

Although I might be less enthused about some aspects of Prince's music than I was-live-he never does anything but entertain and inspire me. Its not just about the dancing-its more a feeling-the buzz in the air at a P gig

and he was AMAZING at the o2 and Indigo-without the splits and piano jumps
