Prince's unreleased stuff from the vault
do you think lots of songs are erased just because of the use of profanity and sexually explicit subject?

I don't know...an artist is capable of destroying their own work...

We can be disappointed at times, and let hard work go... cool

That's silly. He's not going to erase some song out of spite for an audience who chants something while he plays it.

"Play That MFing Bass" isn't a lyric, to my knowledge, unless it's on "Days of Wild" or something.

That's different than erasing songs that have cursing in them like "In A Large Room With No Light", "Rebirth of the Flesh" (although that's been released in concert form).

It's silly to think any artist is going to erase their history. Even Prince has said, "I couldn't have gone through that and still have gotten to where I am right now." Although he was talking about record contracts, the principle applies to his life, and he's said as much. So the cursing? It's just part of the mix. Erasing it doesn't mean it never happened. He can control what leaks out of the vault at this point, but erasing "Head" or "Sister" or "Erotic City" isn't going to take it off my computer, or out of my head, out make my CD disappear.

I doubt that Prince erased every one of his old songs that had profanity on it, or anything that's racy.

If he did, he'd never leave his house!

He'd still be erasing stuff from the Gold Experience!!!

I don't think Prince is that mad. It wouldn't surprise me if he's done some editing but i don't think he'd actually erase anything - at least I hope not!

Yes, Prince can make, destroy and release anything he wishes. He is an Producer, Writer, Artist so he can do what he pleases. I see it done all the time, I am married to a well known producer and he does not let some of his tracks go, no matter how much $ an artist is willing to pay him.

So I understand why he does what he does. I was schooled a long time ago in this world called the "Music Business"!

And neither was officially released, were they? He can't control a network's (TV station) content, except in that he can refuse to perform or whatever.

EXACTLY!He said that the greatest feeling is when you can create something out of nothing. Music is a success upon creation. I think he would not regret any songs he did in his early days because that is just where he was at the time. You really cant knock it biggrin

he can be pretty wacky so I would not be surprised if he went through a phase and did something like this. but he probably has better things to do with his time. And he doesn't like to dwell on the past so he probably just leaves those tapes sitting in there decaying over time.

He does not own the masters to his WB catalog, so no, I dont think he can touch those. However, nothing is stoping him from "re-recordong" them -- like he did with 1999 (what a mess that turned out 2 b)

All the other recordings he owns that masters too (along with his side-projects) he can do what he wants with them.

I read somewhere on the Org. that he got the Masters for For You. Can any1 shed some light on this?
