"somebody's somebody"

i think this is one of his most under-appreciated 90s songs.

it still grabs me this many years later. not too saccharine, not too sexual, not cheese.

what do you think of the song?

I agree. I had it on constant repeat in the 1990s when it first came out.

The entire arrangement of the song is slow seduction but in a funky melodramatic) mood (in my humble opinion).

The beginning of the song puts you in a daze.

I think I wore out my Emancipation CD on that one track!!
Be glad and rejoice for the Lord has done marvelous things!

One of the best songs on my favorite prince album.

Everything about this song is wonderful. The vulnerable lyrics, the smooth production, the guitar work, the screams... this song is great.

Prince's backround vocals on this one... proves that he is one of the best at
arranging vocal harmonies.

The sound FX.. Like the rain, the ticking clock and more realy add a cool theater feel 2 the song.

Princes's vocals from 3:33 to 4:00 is one of my favorite Prince moments on record!!!!!

i am working on a script, and one of the first things i do when i start a new one is build a playlist of songs that are in the mood and tone i am trying to set with the piece. then, i listen to the playlist endlessly.

this song ended up in the playlist. i hadn't listened to it in a while. i had forgotten how good this one is. this has to be one of the best emancipation songs and one of his most underappreciated 90s songs.

By far one of his best R&B songs. The problem is no one knows about. It was during the symbol/crazy period....no one was playing him on the radio...no one really bought the album....no one was playing the video (unless it was a Prince special).

I love the song and I just played it the other day. If it came out to day he would win a grammy and folks woudl be bumpin' it. A GREAT song and GREAT video.... I remember a interview and he said "listen to that song...tell me that's not a hit".

The video seemed so real....Prince in a limo late at night bored with nothing to eat.

Well it was a single, but I think either a concert cut, or the Live Studio version should have been released. He should have just filmed something in the studio like he did with "Willing And Able" (which unfortunately never saw the proper light of day beyond being tucked into a video compilation).

The video should have shown him walking around Paisley Park late at night or in the studio by himself.....

Great post. There is brilliant Prince music in every corner of his catalog. Those that decry his post-1984 output need to get over their laziness.

This song is another masterpiece that he does not do live. Does anyone know of any live performances?

Love it.
Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

Is that a joke? Every video we've seen of Prince, he's driving himself around w/ someone in the car. The whole idea that someone is carting his ass around like that w/ some Chinese take out seemed ridiculous to me. Then he doesn't even eat the food! Wasteful fucker!
