nod Until he owns them, he won't ever touch those old albums. And since his separation contract keeps him with the final word on anything WB releases.....well, it's moot.

So he green lighted both Ultimate and Best of (you know the one with all the different pixs of him)??

The Very Best Of Prince was owed to WB, Ultimate was a post-contract collaboration.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

That was stuff already released, and the Very Best of had multiple pictures from the same era. Horrible cover. He edited Ultimate too. The original guy who put it together had stuff in chronological order, with stuff like "Erotic City" on there. Prince took out the dirty stuff, and wanted it A-side, B-side order.

Hmm... hmmm What does he need to do to please his fans... well, couple years ago I was a Mod at Princefams, and I got a lovely CEASE-&-DESIST... he could maybe STOP DOING THAT. I'd be slightly pleased...

Musically, I'm still mad at the Rave Un2 The Year 2000 DVD... 21 Scriptures in a 1-night stand? What. The. Hell. Is. That. The changing lyrics thing that he's done time to time in the past 10 years has bit my ass. If you don't want to sing some of the provacative songs, fine. As much as we'd all love to hear them, I'd rather Prince NOT sing them, than DESECRATE them.

IMO, of course.

Not sure what he could do 2 please any of his fans at this point.

4 me personally, all he needs 2 do is keep on making albums. 'Lotusflow3r' is better than nearly anything he's released, but his fans just can't seem 2 live in the now. Other than that, a tour with a show somewhere near me would be fantastic.

I think you'll find almost *everyone*, not just jaded Prince fans but pretty much all (music critics, casual fans, whoever) that were exposed to Lotusflo3r, strongly disagree with you.

I have started listening to a lot of Prince music old and new for the first time in 15 years and I find jewels in almost every case...although I am really liking the live bootlegs the most... My question to old fans who have listened continuously throughout the years...what would it take to please you these days? Especially when Prince, as so many American artists, seem to like to tour overseas because fans overseas seem to appreciate them more than American fans. What will it take for American fans to appreciate his music the way it is overseas? I like what I've been hearing and I hope he tours here next year! biggrin

Prince I think is done with major tours. Just catch him when you can, wherever he chooses to perform.

As a Prince fan since 1979, I have no expectations, never have. Just wanted to enjoy the music. Most of it I do enjoy.
IMO, because I enjoy his creative output that's made accessible to me does not obligate him to do anything just because I enjoy what he's produced and shared (or not).
So it takes nothing to please me. Things I think he could do better? Yeah. But that's his life, not mine. People could critique my life also and say what I should or shouldn't be doing to please them. Most of us would reject anyone attempting to do so, especially a stranger.
I've just enjoyed the music and the 30+ live appearances and still enjoying the ride.
I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

I don't think he's do e with major tours. I think if he has another major commercial record with hits he would or could go on a major tour again. Maybe a Prince and the Revolution reform tour for the anniversary of Purple Rain perhaps. He makes most of his money from touring and the 2004 tour he was biggest live earner of the year. We all know Prince likes that cash.

I can also see him doing more residences, Vegas or NYC or somewhere else. I can also see him doing full jazz shows more and more as he mellows. So more jazz festivals and appropriate venues.

He is one of the hottest live acts on the planet and he knows it. He will be choosey but he will be out there. James Brown was playing the festivals up to the year he died, Rolling Stones are always on tour.

Same theory applies to all egotistical artists, pretty much.

I would like to see Prince embrace his past. Release the shelved projects. Release Vault tracks/albums. Remaster the back catalog. Tour with old band-mates for a few shows. Release full live shows from Dirty Mind through Lovesexy on Blu-ray.

I tell DannyD5050 this all of the time. I'm happy with the music we have gotten over the last 10 years or so and love most of it. Many of his fans are still stuck on PR, DM, 1999, SOTT, etc and cannot seem to embrace projects like Lotus or 3121.

I get tired of reading "I wish he would curse again" or "the music isn't the same since he's a JW" and I don't agree with those statements. People still think that he should be singing stuff like 1999 and Irresistible Bitch forever.

Damn, I with ya!!!!!

The U.S. fans could stand to be a bit more accepting of Prince's work. They call it crap on the day it's released then build up a love for it. If we all can recall how Lotusflow3r/MPLSound got trashed on here right after the release and now they're finding acceptance. There is no need to rush to judgement on the new work 1 day after it's hit the stores. Take the time to either love it or hate it.
When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Well, I'm not American, nor am I really an old fan as much as I'm a new one.
But I'd definitely question the truth about the "oversea" appreciation. Prince never really gets played on the radios over here, nor does he get much attention in the media. He may sell more records, but that could be due to the fact that the market over here is over twice as big as in the U.S. But if he wanted me to appreciate his current affairs more, well, he'd have to actually phone Warners and say:

"Hey, U know what? Let's milk my back catalogue by sending out deluxe editions, double disc's with b-sides, remasters and box-sets. I want half the money or more, but heck, if I wait twenty years more, there'll only be five hardcore fans left to buy it, so .. it's like printing money. Quickly, before my legacy devaluates".

He could even be smart about it, set himself a one-record deal with Warners, and release some new stuff along with all the classics (that alone would probably bring some attention to his new work, even incite Warners to promote the shit out of it, creating a success on the backbone of the past).

I'd be more willing to accept his current position in the musical landscape, if he wasn't so keen on erasing his background. He'd get more fans, if he used his back catalogue as a tool to attract people to his latests outings. I simply don't "get" how a spritual/religious person could delude himself to think that a "pure path" is the one of "denial of the past". It seems so .. unbalanced.

Oh, and he could lay off the Judge Dredd mentality.
