Strange Relationship LIVE Appreciation... what an era! "UPTOWN... IS IT GOOD TO YOU?"
Hey all... lately I've been listening to a SOTT rehearsal of Strange Relationship prior to the tour. I'm sure that most of you hardcore fans have heard it before, and maybe even seen the video. I just wanted to express my utmost love and appreciation of this song, and of this era. The amazing thing about Prince is... the man just JAMS! When I watch the unreleased video, and see Brother Brooks and Wally gettin' off... just doing their thing... and Sheila on the drums, and Cat dancing... and hear "squirrel meat"... and hear Bonnie singing... I can't help but to be fascinated. And watching Prince at work during this rehearsal is like... seeing a madman experimenting, but having his concoction be a TOTAL and COMPLETE work of art! It's also amazing to see the performers trusting in Prince with this "new material", and having it all come together. "Is it good to you Bonnie???" Yeahhh yeahhhhh!!!!! "Put your foot on your neighbor, and get off!!" Never get enough of this jam. Many of you don't believe that SOTT is Prince's finest hour. And perhaps it isn't. Prince has SO MUCH material. Strange Relationship isn't even my favorite song on the SOTT CD... and it may not even be in my top 5 favorite cuts on the CD... but if anyone doubts the man's talent and artistry and vision and concepts... just have them take a look and listen to the man at work. So happy to have been a 16 year old back in '87, and able to focus on Prince before LIFE took over. The public is squeezin' you kiddo. You'd better kick ass on your next album or else!

I always felt like this song faded out on the album to quickly, just when it was about to be funky!

Live version is pure soul. It's his Stevie moment. It's a shame that more of these performances aren't available on DVD.
