I went to lots of the O2 aftershows and I have to say he has the spark still and then some.... I think the younger Prince had lots more hunger and passion and sexyness which we all miss and love.... He is still there but much more mellow with time..... I see it more when he plays live and in the aftershows.....

Well, I'll take most anything he did during this decade over the latter half of the 90s. If he's "boring", it's because the changes in overall album themes and the visual appearance of shows etc. are more or less gone. Most of the songs he has released this decade could have appeared on just about any other studio album - with only a handful of exceptions to that rule, really.

But then again, I really don't see the aesthetics and production ideologies favoured in the mainstream music industry having changed that much in overall during the last ten years either. In that regard, he's not really the only example of the said phenomenon.

I like pretty much everything up until Musicology. Musicology was the beginning of the end of his purple Reign for me. I'll listen to the new stuff, but it just doesn't seem to have what it used to, and I'm not even refering to the language and nekkid-ness of the 80s/90s.

I am with you and I am bored with Prince too, nothing new....

He's not the influence to my life no more like he used to be,

I am still apreciating his old music 1978 > 1995 100% though. I will never get tired of the Warner Bros. music.

How many times does someone have to reinvent the Wheel?

Prince is older, so he's not as good a songwriter as he used to be because his mind isn't as sharp in his 50's as it was in his 20's.

Get over it.

I am bored also . . . just listen to the whacked-out brilliance of "Crystal Ball," or even the quirky simplicity of "Forever In My Life" or even Prince grooving to his own world in "Train" ~ he was an artist that baffled, astounded and confused his musical contemporaries. Now he is just a courteous pleasantry resting on his purple laurels.

I doubt it has anything to do with how "sharp"he is. It's all about inspiration. The older we get the harder it is to find-- both as artists and observers of said art.

You're both right I think. He's not as quick on the draw as he used to be, cranking out random and incredible music. I don't think he's "slow", but he's just not got the same muse he once did. That muse plays into the inspiration argument as well.

One of my favorite artists is Salvador Dali. He was fucking brilliant, but his last panting as atrocious. So many great artists go out on a lesser note than what they were once capable of doing.

Yeah but Prince isn't in his eighties with psychological and physical ailments. If you want a better analogy, try Miles Davis. The dude kept changing and changing his sound and not looking back with a cpl of exceptions (under Quincy Jones' urging). I challenge Prince to create something so fearless and out there as all of those tracks on the Complete On the Corner Sessions box set. When Miles couldn't put out quality any longer, he "retired" for six years, and then came back out. Albeit, I don't like Miles's eighties output as much as the rest, but he still forged ahead until he dropped.

Many of us were lucky enough to follow Prince from the beginning and saw that beautiful flower blossom through the eighties. Then, it seems, the Nineties came, he had accomplished every caveat that could be possibly obtained, and he started to meld with respectability the more he tried to break from it.

Nope, his music is boring, it is Prince Lite. I am just waiting for the Vault to crack open and hear that reckless genius once again. The only reason I come here is to read about the old days. Prince is damn straight, "my only competition is me in the past." He'd rather suppress his best work than allow it to supercede the crap he shits out. It's part of the coup of being an icon.

I have spent most of my life as an immense Prince fan. However, I have no hope whatsoever that he will do anything interesting again. There have been a few moments of pleasing music in the last ten or so years, but the Prince who put out songs that didn't sound like anything else, that had great vocal arrangements, the Prince who could allow healthy collaboration, and who didn't record music out of fear of being irrelevant is long gone.
For me, you'd have to go back well over a decade to find an album that was interesting and high-calibur.
Why am I here? I think I was bored and I sometimes check this site out, but I have never been less enthusiastic about Prince.

he's still the only artist that gets me to the "store" on GP. u NEVER know what ur going to get and i find that even if the album is uneven, there are usually several gems that i like immediately or that grow on me. he's still extremely interesting and innovative to me. i like his "deeper" stuff and like most here it seems. i'm not put off by his spirituality. i'm so glad i don't get caught up in nostalgia as it relates to him

Very good point and I know what u mean why don't u just forget about him if ur bored with him? I've been there especially in the 90s when he was writing slave on his face, I thought wft are u doing? ur living in ur big white mansion writing slave on ur face like some victim, its an insult to real children and women slaves around the world and of all slavery. It put off him and everything he was saying this wasn't the Prince I knew and grown to love thru all out my adolescence, I have been devoted with him since the early 80s the rebellion years..so this slave thing didnt sit right with me at all and was never what in my eyes what Prince was about, he spoke about freedom, love and equality etc. So all this 90s slave thing altho i hated it still didnt mean I wasn't interested in him, I still wanted to know everything he was doing and was buying every piece of music he released and reading everything that was written about him, he was the only reason why I wanted the internet to find about every infomation I could get hold of. He was still a part of me, my youth, adulthood and life. u just can't shake prince off just like that he really seeps into ur soul...deeply. As we all know thats why most of us are still here. Anyway as time went on it dawned on me what he was really trying to express..it was freedom, freedom for all and freedom of what u ever u believe in, whether its money or living rights etc, it just was about ur rights as human being to control whatever u've create on ur own.It made me love this guy even more I felt I could understand where he was coming from and where he was going. A lot of artist other can't never give u that feeling of connection and understanding in what they/u believe in and do. I thank prince for this. I still wanna know what everything hes doing even if he has brought new pair of socks! lol may sound silly but I do.

ok well i think we give prince too much credit ... he writes good songs sometimes .. with the right people to bounce off of he does the most amazing work of all time .. there are a lot of albums i cant really sit thru ... i think to assume he can just go from tons of talented help to some kind of superhero that can play everything and make it as interesting as those 7 or 10 people in his band family etc.. did .. i think thats a lot of pressure .. he couldnt do it .. thus we got some thunkers .. but i think he has been improving lately as in his albums are getting more bearable and still a couple great moments where as before it was i need to turn this off bad at times still the highs are not quite as high as before ... but hes gettin there .. chelsae was pretty good as was fury so as much as yeah its still more interesting to listen to his older work for the millionth time then to try to sit thru mr. goodnite with out swearing u will never buy a prince album again because it sucks so bad .. i believe he has been branching out trying different things musically with the jazz and rock guitar and bria and tamar etc.. that doesnt mean they are great but i think he is willing to see what he can do ... hes done the rap the christian rock the raunchy the sex bump of high that news album u know i think its gonna come together soon ... these cds are all practice .. he had to do his sketchwork for a while now that he has a fuller pallet he is ready to paint .. the paintings are slowly getting a little better and i think hes
gonna lay the best of his career on us soon ... happens all the time with rock stars ... they are awesome then they lose most of their audience put out a bunch of experimental and dramatically different music that sounds nothing like the music that got them famous ... and then some kind of switch kicks in and u get time out of mind or harvest moon or the last couple jonnknow niel young was doing this new wave shit for a couple years with synthesizers and drum machines ... bob dylan went off the map for a while too no one was diggin his records ... so yeah i think prince is gonna hit us with it in the next couple of years ... its gonna be good ... so to respond to the thread topic .. he he .... i'm just a little bored but not TOTALLY bored.[/quote

In acquiesce, I'd go further and say he only has to get rid of the pussy tickler and shoulder pads to be take seriously as a contender again in regards to his studio work. Bria and a few MPLSound clunkers aside, Lotus Flower is superior to anything he's done since TRC - and that stood head, shoulders and balls above anything he'd done since Lovesexy, maybe even SOTT.
I understand Prince uses the ridiculousness of his appearence as subterfuge to seive out the tits, but I wish his moustache would turn such a shade of grey there was not a dye or mascara which could paint it black, black as coal,I wanna see the sun blotted out from the sky, I WAANA PAINT IT PAINT IT PAINT IT BLACK and he'd be forced to get rid of the fuckig thig
