The first time I heard Daddy Pop was when Prince performed it live on the Arsenio Hall show back in 1992. I thought that song was going to be AMAZING!

But the actual version on Diamonds and Pearls was a bit disappointing. I'm sure it was the energy it was performed with on Arsenio that made it phenomenal, in my opinion.

I'd love to hear other songs you thought were going to be amazing on the LP or CD, but were just a bit disappointed with. My choice is Daddy Pop.

(I'm not asking what songs are performed BETTER live. There are many. Just list a song you enjoyed live, but didn't like it as much when it was released.

I think the be-all, end-all epitome of this is Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic.

Most of the Gold Experience material. What ended up on the end album was no way near as exciting hearing that material for the first time live.

Never head those versions. I'm sure they'd be amazing! I think my fave song on TGE is Dolphin, and LIVE, it's superb, and seem much more heartfelt. I still enjoy the recording... but I'm sure the less polished studio version would be interestng!

The 1983 version of A Case Of U from the Avenue. I understand that it would not have fitted the theme and style One Nite Alone like that, but I just think it was more exciting like that, especially with him singing it in his lower register.
