A long time ago, I recall a friend telling me about a rumor that Prince kills the Lady Cab Driver after abducting and raping her. I told him that was absurd, and he pointed out an odd sound effect (at 6 mins 25 secs) that has been interpreted by some as Prince cutting the Lady Cab Driver's throat.

I gave it a listen, and while years later I still don't buy the rape-and-kill interpretation, I've always been curious about just what that sound is. Anyone heard anything?

well, the lyrics do not match rape - "this is for love, not sex" - plus, it sounds a lot more consensual than rape.

Not sure what the sound is - I listened to it - just a synth sound, I think your friend is reading too much into it.

That's a bong, people. Gheezus, rape and murder? Tell your friend to stop watching movies, and get some life experience. Prince talks about smoking pot a lot on that album, and even on Controversy. He did years later in songs like "Now" ("light is up and take a hit, light us up and take hit...light up another one dude!")

I don't listen to the song anymore.
I absolutely hate the ending where he does that

"This is for my ....." and you can hear the woman suffering.
Some can choke it up to bedroom role playing, but
it's disturbing to me none the less.


And don't even get me started on the whole Prince and cannibalism element.

it's prince dedicating each thrust of the sex he's having,
he starts out angry, dedicating his thrusts to discrimination,
politicians who are born to believe in war etc etc

and as he continues his mood changes and the thrusts get

it's a bit of a reflection of where prince was going with
his music as well. in his early years prince always played
the part of the disgruntled lover who was duped or cheated
by women, who were mere sex objects anyway.

later on his messages became more metaphysical and love, in
it's non sexual form became more important than lust. well,
in most cases anyway.

The song "Lady Cab Driver," is about an emotional venting with a sexual healing feeling to it. He wants her to drive his demons out of him.

It's a great song.
