I don't think it's changed him (or his music) nearly as much as people around here exclaim.

Oh, i'd relisten to Rainbow Children again and read the lyrics if i were you. There are much more examples of change (in music) in many other albums, but that album stands out the most. Its literally a Hail Hail JW album....

[b]Believe me. I sat in the halls of Paisley Park, lyric book in hand, with a bunch of other fans and listened/read thru that thing all the way through. Yeah, it's dogmatic as hell, but it's a rarity. It's also really funky. It's a dense piece that doesn't fit the format. I kind of respect Prince for it. It's also nearly a decade old. Since then, I've seen Prince several times in concert and purchased every album. He's more the same than he is different. I think hip-hop and the 90's changed him/his art a lot more.

I dunno. The Rainbow Children just wasn't a huge deal to me either way. I mean, I could get all bent out of shape about my interpretation of the lyrics to "America", but I don't. Same with Prince's faith. I still like his music and he keeps it interesting enough for me.

Each human being on this planet has free will. When motivated by true knowledge you make life choices. Everyone is on a journey! Life is about growth and change. Prince's journey is unique to him and reflect in his music. I love discovering new dimensions in him, including his impressive faith in God. He shares his gift with us, why do we have to judge him for it.

I agree. He has given us SO much.

"A meditation of David. Only fools say in their hearts, "There is no God." They are corrupt, and their actions are evil; no one does good!

God looks down from heaven on the entire human race; he looks to see if there is even one with real understanding, one who seeks for God.

But no, all have turned away from God; all have become corrupt. No one does good, not even one.

Will those who do evil never learn? They eat up my people like bread; they wouldn't think of praying to God.

But then terror will grip them, terror like they have never known before. God will scatter the bones of your enemies. You will put them to shame, for God has rejected them. "

Once I read that only those who know the name of the Lord would be saved. Jehovah is a derivative of Yahweh which is from new latin.
Think of the many people who now know the name of God, Jehovah, just because of Prince's faith.

Not at all - taken directly from you and in context - unless you want to gloss over it with some more benign interpretation? Furthermore, there are countless examples in the Bible (especially in the Old Testament) that show God to be less than benevolent - but, of course, believers will "cherry pick" sections to support their belief regardless.

This will undoubtably piss everyone off, but it needs to be said regardless of Prince's beliefs or anyone.

This is a great quote from a great drama that ended this year: Battlestar Galactica. I know...but if you know the show you know what its about.

I quote Caval:

"Supernatural divinities are the primative's answer for why the sun goes down at night"

No truer words have ever been spoken. I think we need to become more enlightened as a ppl and realize cults and religions segregate us all. While their moral tales and rules for 'living better' may help us to live our lives happier, they(religion/cult) only serve to divide, kill, rape and destroy humanity's soul and prevent us from evolving. Why must we see things in only Black & White, when are are so many colors inbetween? Religions/Cults serve only to simplify a race (the human race) that is so diverse and rich in imagination. We must be our own moral saviors and not rely on a God or Gods to 'watch over us' to make sure we are being good. Once we do this, I know in my heart that we'll truly see each other as equals and not men or women or brown or yellow or gay or straight...oh it goes on.

Anyways, my rant is over....cast stones at me smile

From the brilliant George Carlin;

"When it comes to bullshit, big-time, major league bullshit, you have to stand in awe of the all-time champion of false promises and exaggerated claims, religion. No contest. No contest. Religion. Religion easily has the greatest bullshit story ever told. Think about it. Religion has actually convinced people that there's an invisible man living in the sky who watches everything you do, every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a special list of ten things he does not want you to do. And if you do any of these ten things, he has a special place, full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish, where he will send you to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry forever and ever 'til the end of time!

But He loves you." eek

No. I think people debate the beliefs of the JW and how it relates to P.

When he had the NPGMC download store, he sold Crystal Ball unedited and he was practicing JW at the time. That is one of the reasons why I don't P would edit anything now. Especially all of the material that is already on the market.

I think his conversion to a JW somewhat Enslaved him. IMO, it has placed barriers and a ceiling on his creativity. However, his recent output can stand out as just as good as any in his career but I feel he can't take it to another level because of being a JW.

Amazing isn't it? nod I was always amused at how Carlin lumped all religions into this monotheistic puddle. As if all religions have the same human origins story, the same god(s), the same belief in the fate of the universe or even it's size. I think Carlin must have had a bad experience in sunday school or got into a fight with a rabbi. giggle
