From my point of view I would not call them "realist", when you make a negative comment and there is no "positivity" in that comment how is that being "real" (ist)?

I love everything P does, some more than others but there is little he's done that I would form my mouth to say "sucks". It may be art to one person and sh!t to another but it is art never-the-less. We just may not understand what so said artist is saying.

Buddy, not everything is rainbows and unicorns, even in Prince world. Realism is needed in life. Prince has always talked about "the truth", but he's never fully defined that. I think he knows that he has to ultimately leave that up to the listener and the fan to know what their truth is. The truth is that everyone has a different set of ears, a different brain, and a different way of doing things.

No one in their right mind would put on blinders with any artist, singer, musician, or whatever, and call everything they did "great". It just doesn't happen, unless they did a very, very short amount of really good stuff, then stopped. THEN "everything they did was great". James Dean was in about 7 or 8 movies, 3 of which he starred in. All three of those he was nominated for an Oscar or other award. To say "everything James Dean did was incredible" is a more viable argument than everything Prince has done for 31 years is "awesome". It's not. He's had peaks and valleys in his career, and we all know, and debate, what they are.

It's Prince's safe guard from THE TRUTH when he says people criticize him without cause, or without knowing his music. Well, I'm a musician. I've played music since I was six years old, and written music since I was 18, although I did write one song when I was 12. So does my two cents count more than someone who doesn't play anything more than their iPod or game console? Of course not. But we're more than fans. We're invested. We know his fucking shoe size, his birthday, his addresses, we've been in his studios, we've seen him play music, and some of us have talked to him personally, or listened to him talk. If anyone is primed to speak on Prince's music, aside from Prince himself, it's us. Those of us who paid the $77 for the Lotusfuck3r.com site (I didn't); those of us who have bought multiple copies of a movie or an album, for the sheer sake of collection and being a completest; those of us who hear Prince in other people's music, see his influence on young upstart bitches today. Yes, WE are the true critics, the fans, the mirror, the sounding board.

The problem is, Prince didn't anticipate that his fan base would be as FULL of TRUTH as he thought, or that his truth didn't reflect other's truths about his music. It's about balance.

I agree with this completely ...

It's the male and female symbols combined. Put them together and it's sex or in other words, just plain old nasty fucking. That symbol goes all the way back to the "1999" album cover when Prince was strictly nasty and that was before all the goofy "love 4 one another" over analized artsy/fartsy "we will love each other forever" "our souls are one" bullshit. Prince was nasty as hell in those days and it just plain out meant fucking. Either that or he was trying to tell us he's gay and is just as much a woman inside as he is a man.

Whatever though. And the horn didn't come until later. What does the horn mean? It means that Prince is a musician. It would be kinda stupid if he incorporated a wrench or a hammer into his symbol.

I don't hate Prince. I'm just a realist - I like Prince's music so much, but I'm not afraid to say that Kamasutra and some of his songs suck. I think there are not many haters on the org, just realists wink

Right PurpleLove...It's the fact that Prince took (His Time) to record music. I'm sure Prince put every amount of effort he could into the every song...
With any Art some things are "just good," some throw-away, and other's fabulous pieces.

Mixed opinions are expected...It's not meant to cause major arguments, but rather discussions. cool

That is what this thread explains...The Symbol's interpretation.

The "World," is "Here," because of this Male/Female combination.
Everyone in their mind has a vision of "Adam & Eve's," Eternal Love 4 eachother.
Sexual intimacy exists whether or not there is a love song playing on the radio, or a kissing slow dance before penetration.
"Making," Love is the idea...Not taking a beautiful sign and twisting it into some hormone 80's thing.
Prince is a Man that wants his God, his Lady, his music, and harmony in his life.

The "Symbol," is Prince's heart. cool

ernestsewell~ U live your life on your path...Your statement appears to be a little skin flick superficial...

I'm sure Prince takes his lovemaking seriously, and that is why this the the "prince.org," and not "ernest.biz." cool

How dare you judge me as not taking sex seriously! You think every girl Prince is boffing, he's all googly over? REALLY? You think he wasn't out to get his purple wiener wet just because? Pffft. Don't judge, little girl.

Prince wasn't all that deep when that symbol first appeared on the "1999" album in 1982. He was just a nasty funk rocker with a wild look singing about sex. Even when he became all artsy/fartsy himself, he didn't take it that serious. Such as the scene in "Under The Cherry Moon" when he was sitting in the bathtub talking all that goofy shit on the telephone. Just as soon as he hung the phone up, he and Jerome laughed their asses off because the woman on the phone was taking that shit seriously.

Apparently, she's forget the lyric....I don't love you, I'm just a horny toad....which was on a B side the same year that symbol first appeared on one of his albums.

Yep. Or "I only wanna feel u up" (which also suspiciously sounds like FILL you up, which is even more sexual). Let's not forget "Jack U Off", "Let's PRETEND We're Married", "Let's Work", "Head", "Dirty Mind".....oh fuck, we know the list.

I understand what U are saying, however we are talking about a general feeling about love making...not Prince expressing being horny in one song. You cannot reduce Prince to one idea. When we are young, we are curious about people and relationships. Those intimate decisions narrow as U get older.

And Earnest...I would think U would call your lover by his name...Prince wouldn't be married to me and call me his "candy coated pin cushion," I don't think. cool
