QUESTION OF THE YEAR: Does Prince live in DOG YEARS? i ask myself that becuase i was watching the SOTT outtakes and the Birthday PARADE show and was astounded that these eras were basically a year and some change apart. how can he change his style and look, musical output and all that in such a short period is amazing to me. i mean its different from era to the next but the PARADE/SOTT transition is the most startling to me. ( maybe because its the different bands?) maybe WE live too slow? i dont know.
just a lil thought i had. now im gonna go eat me some cereal.

A lot of that change was contrived....just like Madonna changed her look for every album...just a marketing tool and to change things up and keep people interested.
It still worked but just saying that a good bit of thought and calculation went into it. [Edited 12/15/09 8:13am]

cool. im sure it was strategized.
i feel thats kind of whats been missing. it seems like the past 5 years or so that hasn't been the case. it seems like one big era. 1978-1979 : under the radar. not much change to be noticed besides a few pics 1979-1980 : not too big of a change. shorter hair. more punkish 1980-1981: longer hair. more conservative clothes 1981-1982: evolution of previous 1982-1985:evolution of previous 1985-1986 : first major revamp of look and style 1986-1987 : second major revamp. 1987-1988 : evolution of previous 1988-1989 : evolution of previous uhhhh im thinkin way too much about this. need to find somethin to do

just a lil thought i had. now im gonna go eat me some cereal. um.....ok? Let's example those two time periods. The Hit N Run tour ended September 8, 1986. SOTT was released on March 31, 1987, and the tour started in May. Sept to May is eight months, plenty of time for his hair to grow. It grew even longer by the time Lovesexy came out, and he kept it long until about 1994/1995 or so. It's easy to appear different when your hair is growing out like that. And to change your clothes from a suit to a jumper and a leather trench coat can change a look too. It's really not that amazing when you consider the time frame.

Hey I hate to say this, but the reason why Prince's hair was able to "grow" so quickly during those years is because he was wearing (and still wears) hair extensions. Prince has been wearing hair extensions since 1999 and maybe as early as Controversy. Look at his hair during the performance of Purple Rain at the Grammies in 85" the front part over his eye...hair extension! The last time Prince had his real hair was probably his second album and the Dirty Mind time period. My ex-girlfriend who loves Prince and is a beautician pointed this out to me years ago while we were watching "Baby Im a Star/I would die 4 U" concert video.

Peace, Aaron6ix That statement needs proof. Why does everyone think anyone who has long hair automatically have a weave or extensions? It's just such an old thing to say.

I didn't want to believe it either, but it's true. Anybody who does hair can look at Prince over the years and can tell. Elvis dyed his hair black, Michael Jackson wore a wing, and Prince uses hair pieces/extensions.

He had his hair chopped around November 1993. TRUE BLUE

its not just the hair im talking about the whole vibe. sometimes it just seems like he was a totally different person but then again once you think of the logics that goes behind it and length of actual time its not that amazing. but just thinkin in terms most artists eras are 2-3 years and p's barely last for a year. thats what im talking about
