Now that thanksgiving is over we are coming into the home stretch of the holiday season and the new year. Now is the season to listen to the instrumental versions of God and the great great great Another Lonely Christmas..both of them have that acoustic sound to them.

Little use of synths etc., great live drumming. Another Lonely Christmas long version is da shit. The impassioned vocals and the dramatic lyrics makes this one of his best "story" enigma songs ( till he blew it by stating its all fiction in an interview ).

The opening of the song with the chorus being sung first is like it pushes you immediately in the song. Then he begins singing as if he is talking to the person. And banana daquaries(sp?) and pokeno (I love that game) brings it close to home. Then he says how she dies on the 25th day of December and screams "last night.."....the breakdown when he says the " doctor said u were dead" then "another lonely xmas is mine,,yeah..mine..yeah..another lonely xmas is mine..then part where he says the last chrorus "another lonely LONELY christmas..." has always got me in my throat.

Its so emotion filled that you gotta say damn...its as if he was screaming that part on his back in pain like he was doing The Beautiful Ones on his back..Then the coda with all live instruments competing and the guitar in another channel breaking it down Jimi style and the drums still pounding away with the piano keys making their important embellishments...and then it all breaks down so quietly with that ..that Prince synth afterglow that is his trademark of the eighties. Thank god he made this song. It’s cathartic.

Great song! It's funny. Although it was made in '83, it reminds me of '94 because I heard it for the first time around the Christmas of that year. I used to play it over and over. It was so cool discovering so much good music I had never heard.

I swear, I've never liked that song too much.

i always have to put this one on during christmas time.
the musicianship is great, love the imagery in the lyrics and i like the way prince sings on it too.

Interesting...When I listened to this song in 1994...I was glad to be alive...I almost died from falling off a cliff in July....I was beginning to heal early November. For a moment that year I felt like the entity of that song.

Cool to discover better late than never. The sad thing is that it's never really become a Christmas staple in the general population. However they did play it at my company Christmas party last year so somebody was hip to it lol.
