"I love u in me" the b-side 2 "Arms of Orion".I think some1 got those 2 songs mixed up as far as "a side,b side" stuff goes.
I bought the 12" version of "Orion" years ago just 2 hear what the b-side was like and I was(am)always grateful I did.
Bloody beautiful song!!!!

Yeah, "I Luv U in Me" is a great tune too... When was it recorded? Is it from the early 90s?

"Rock N Roll Is Alive (And It Lives In Minneapolis)" belongs on Gold, perhaps instead of "Shy"

"Rock N Roll..." is embarrassing, it's so lame. If it was going to be on an album, it should have been Exodus, not Gold.

This is a great thread by the way... I reckon heart or $ definitely!

Have to agree here.... and "Shy" is one of the best songs he did in the 90's... YO! Pass the pipe!

BTW, the first that comes to mind is "She's Always in My Hair"

the second would be "How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore"

"Love...Thy Will B Done" (Sonny's verison) should have been on Exodus, and delete something like "Big Fun" or "NewPowerSoul" from it, or all those damned segues.

Violet The Organ Grinder should have been on Diamonds and Pearls instead of Jughead or even Live 4 Love.

Space should have been on Come as the Universal Love Remix

I think the acoustic mix of "Space" would have worked too, just to bring people down from the forevertimed title track.

Totally agree about "Violet". The original version of "Live 4 Love" (that is on Uncut Diamonds) is so much superior. The laid back vocals really put some mood into the song.

It was released October 16, 1989, having been recorded at P. Park earlier that year.

"Erotic City" should have been on "Purple Rain" instead of "Take Me With U".

If you think about it, Disk 3 of The Hits IS an album. All those a-sides are now their own album. It's a perfect disk up to that point. We could build a second disk at this point w/ other B-sides since 1993 that'd be just as good.

I often think that the third disc should have been released as a proper album in its own right. Very few weak songs on it, a real classic

Amen, its amazing how many Bsides on that album were much better singles than their top sides. Horny Toad, Gotta Stop Messin about, Scarlet Pussy, Shockadelica, 17 Days (Should have been a double a side along with Lets Go Crazy/Erotic city, all 4 songs would have made a killer EP). Another Lonely Christmas and the non single songs Power Fantastic and 4 the Tears in ur eyes can give you goosebumps. Shes always in my hair was pretty amazing too, I love u in me (It was a bside on my Insatiable single from late 91, yet this song is 89) and Feel U up.

oh thanx, l could have sworn it was recorded during the "Diamonds & Pearls" sessions... It has such a early 90s sound..

Yeah I think Princey made some bad choices when itcomes to choosing his albums tracklisting... Honestly, how could he put"Baby I'm AStar" or"Take Me with u" on Purple Rain, and leaving "17 Days" or even "How Come You Don't Call me"??? l don't get it, honestly sad

"17 Days" was originally an Apollonia 6 track (as was "Take Me With U", "Manic Monday", and "The Glamorous Life"), but he took it back as his own. Think about the lyric. It's much more of a female track than a Prince/male point of view. For some reason, with Brenda in the group, a line like "all I got, is 2 cigarettes, and this broken heart of mine" makes more sense for A6, than Prince.

I think, for me, with 1999 being a very R&B and funky album, something like "How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore?" would have slowed the album down. Yes we had a couple of ballads on the album (although one ended the album which was perfect), but even "Free" ended up being rousing enough to lead you back into an upbeat song like "Automatic". It seems to fit better as a b-side, or on another album.
